For exterior painting in the fall, paint during the warmest part of the day (10 AM to 3 PM) on dry days, ensuring the surface temperature is at least five degrees above the dew point. Since we are having more rain than we know what to do with, I figured this is an important bit of information!

Painting wood that isn't fully dry can lead to several problems, including poor paint adhesion, bubbling, peeling, and potential damage to the wood itself. Moisture trapped beneath the paint film can cause it to lift or crack as it dries, and can also trap moisture, leading to rot.
