To say I love my bees is an understatement. When neither of last year's hives survived the winter, I was devastated. Beekeeping is part science and part art, but ultimately they are wild creatures and will do what they want. I have doubled down and am investing more time into them this go-round, and part of that is spending more time with them.
Today was a rainy day in MD, and the water table and kiddie pool on our deck have become a watering hole for my girls. Over the course of today, I spent at least 30min just sitting and watching them land, drink, clean off, and go about their business.
Bees need to drink water just as much as we (or any other living creature for that matter) do. For whatever reason, I never really noticed this in previous years, and perhaps that is because previous colonies just preferred to get their water elsewhere- there is a creek at the back of our property... But these girls seem to like fresh water, and after today's time with the bees, I'll be making some water stations to put around the deck and the veggie garden.
I also HAD to document this, because it is seriously the coolest thing ever. In doing so, I futzed around with settings on my phone and took both the stills and the video on the "food" setting that my LG G7 has.
Enjoy!
