I had NO IDEA just how busy life was going to get with all 4 of us having our own schedules this year, but here's to a more active year here and actually sharing the things we are up to. There was PLENTY going on in the last quarter of 2021 and I did manage to get pics, so be on the lookout for a catch-up post this week.

Wishing you and yours a wonderful 2022 ❤

Grape Harvest, Day 2! Since it is oppressively hot and humid, we were only out long enough yesterday and today to fill these three containers. Yesterday we made 8 quarts of grape juice, so I should be able.to make the same today!

Busy day here! 2 primer coats are on the first batch of drawer fronts (I have 33 pieces total to paint), and Aubrey helped with today's garden harvest: 2 zucchini and 8 cucumbers. Trying a different recipe for bread & butter pickles, and going to make a small batch of my grandma's zucchini relish with the 3 total that were harvested this week.

These bite sized cinnamon sugar pinwheels from my childhood might be the real reason I make my pie crusts from scratch. It's been awhile since I've made them, and I am so looking forward to reintroducing them to the girls! It's just what you do with leftover dough.

Today's garden haul: a huge zuch, enough cucumbers to make a sample batch of bread & butter pickles tomorrow, and the first of many jalapenos. Yum!

So stoked to harvest my first zucchinis today, my 2nd round of berries, the grape vines are heavy with fruit, there are baby cucumbers all over the vines, flowers on the eggplants, baby jalapenos coming in, melon & pumpkin vines growing nicely, corn has survived the last 2 severe storms, and we are just waiting for tomatoes to turn red. This is the most prolific garden I've had in a few years!

To say I love my bees is an understatement. When neither of last year's hives survived the winter, I was devastated. Beekeeping is part science and part art, but ultimately they are wild creatures and will do what they want. I have doubled down and am investing more time into them this go-round, and part of that is spending more time with them.

Today was a rainy day in MD, and the water table and kiddie pool on our deck have become a watering hole for my girls. Over the course of today, I spent at least 30min just sitting and watching them land, drink, clean off, and go about their business.

Bees need to drink water just as much as we (or any other living creature for that matter) do. For whatever reason, I never really noticed this in previous years, and perhaps that is because previous colonies just preferred to get their water elsewhere- there is a creek at the back of our property... But these girls seem to like fresh water, and after today's time with the bees, I'll be making some water stations to put around the deck and the veggie garden.

I also HAD to document this, because it is seriously the coolest thing ever. In doing so, I futzed around with settings on my phone and took both the stills and the video on the "food" setting that my LG G7 has.

Enjoy!
