NW Chicago Suburbs: Creating livable, timeless homes for local and virtual clients

Welcome!

< < < Family Photography > > >

Why not document the various stages of life your family ventures through together? My style of family photography is very laid back; I will very rarely pose you in rigid positions. I strive to capture candid, fun moments because they tend to highlight *real* smiles and expressions rather than "1-2-3" forced smiles. That being said, I do want to help you lo

ok your very best in these photos, so every now and then I might ask you to turn your hips a little or move your chin. After all, I care about how your photos turn out because I want you to love them, plus they are a representation of my ability.

< < < Engagement > > >

Your engagement is a very special time, full of anticipation for the day when you say “I do” to the love of your life. Capturing the emotions associated with this phase of your life is what I strive to do so that you can look back and feel these emotions at any point in your life—even share them with your children!

< < < Boudoir > > >

It's not about what you show; it's about what you leave to the imagination. I value the tasteful art of boudoir photography. A lady should always be classy, but that doesn't mean she can't also be sexy.

< < < Wedding > > >

Your wedding day, then, is the capstone of your engagement. And the truth is, you only get one shot at it! My job is to make sure all of the important, heartfelt moments from your big day are immortalized. Please view my photo galleries, packages, and pricing to determine whether or not you feel I’d be a good fit for you. Feel free to contact me with any questions or to schedule your session. I look forward to hearing from you!

All last summer, when we weren’t staying at a local rental or my parents’ house, we practically LIVED on this screened porch. We brought the TV out here for movie nights, Cubs games, and Bluey when the kids needed a break from the sun. Our whole main floor was being put back together after pretty much gutting it a couple months after we moved here from Colorado.

Being out here today brings me back to being uncomfortably pregnant with our third, stressed-out from construction woes, constant dust being brought up to our bedrooms at night, and those darn noisy (and so creepy) cicadas we had last summer.

That being said, it also brings me back to showing the kids what it means to have a true Midwest summer: endless outdoor imagination-charged mornings, going out for boat rides, meeting our friends at the beach, running through sprinklers, grilling out nearly every night, and catching fireflies at dusk.

I wouldn’t change a thing 🥰; we are right where we’re meant to be, and it was all well worth the wait.

Struggling with an awkward space?

This sitting room was the first space off the foyer in our Colorado home. It was staged with four armchairs around a small coffee table, which definitely sufficed, but I wouldn’t say it *oozed* warmth (swipe to the end for the MLS photo). It never beckoned me to cozy-up with a cup of coffee and a good book, you know what I mean?

There was one long wall with a window, flanked by two shorter walls: one that opened to the entryway, and one with a fireplace that needed some love since ‘90s niches weren’t our thing.

Enter the curved sofa, some pinch-pleat curtains, and a modern update to the fireplace wall...

…then add sunbeams flooding this room with southern-exposure natural light, and I’d make like a cat and curl up right in the bend of this sofa. ☀️🐈☕️

Hope everyone had a wonderful and Blessed Easter! I’ve been chugging away at some really exciting changes, new services and products, and client work offline, and Jason has been making steady progress whenever we get a couple hours here and there between business, coaching, and family time to work on the pantry and music room at our home (projects move very slowly here 😉).

Currently snuggling in bed with one sick kiddo and one sleepyhead (who both insisted on watching a movie for their first to-do on Easter Monday), while baby 🐻 is taking his morning nap.

Filled with gratitude for this little family and slow mornings. 🥰

I can’t wait to share more about what I’ve been working on behind the scenes of what I’m posting on my (very sparingly updated) content here on IG! 😉💕

Any product Qs, please drop them in the comments and I will post links to stories by request!

Swipe to the end for before pics 👉🏼

The antique double-door transition from the bedroom into the bathroom in our previous home in Colorado will always be one of my favorites.

That primary suite my own personal sanctuary—the bathroom feeling like a spa (as long as I kept it tidy), with the best bubble baths, west-facing windows with sunset skies that filled the room with pink and orange, thunderstorms rolling in on summer nights with the windows open, and the most gorgeous natural light, even through the winter months. I miss it!

We haven’t touched the primary bed & bath yet in our Illinois home. It’s been a year, and we’ve prioritized every other space in our home, with the kids’ bathrooms to come next (they’re currently half carpeted, so it’s a must in our books).

Of course, I daydream all the time about how I plan to update our new bedroom and bathroom to make them feel like a retreat, similar to the feelings of relaxation and escape these spaces in our last home provided. Antique doors might be a must. I loved them too much to not consider sourcing another set and doing a different spin on this look.

What are your primary suite must-haves?

We’re hard at work on the music room project today, but I think I’m going to keep the remaining progress a secret until it’s ready for its big reveal. Instead, I felt like some of my favorite snapshots from our family’s spring break trip deserved a permanent spot here in my feed! ☺️☀️🌴

Barrett was a champ on the plane—really all three children were—and in typical third child fashion (or at least according to what people have been telling me), he was SO chill and just went along with everything as we played each day by ear.

It’s really nice that my Grandmom lives in Clearwater Beach, as she and my Pop 👼🏼 have made this feel like my home away from home. I’ve been coming here since I was in middle school (in the ‘90s!), and I’m very grateful that my children now enjoy visiting their Great Grandmom’s condo, swimming in her pools, having a cool drink and a snack on her balcony, and more.

We couldn’t have asked for a better trip! Joe and Everleigh even made some little friends to play with all day at the hotel pool, which allowed us to truly relax and watch them go have fun.

We’re working on our own home projects this weekend, and then come Monday, it’s back to work! I’m really looking forward to my next client project, and will share more once it’s underway 😉.

Did you go anywhere for spring break? Or are you still planning to go somewhere if yours is later than ours was?

Happy first day of Spring!!

In true Illinois fashion, we woke up to snow today!☃️
I’m counting down the days until it’s warm and sunny enough to hang with the kids outside!! Until then, I’ll take baby toes with my hot coffee, cozy jammies, and a fluffy blanket.

Some beautiful cardinals have been playing in this dried wreath that I hung on the front door. They are so fun to watch! Do you remember where I had this wreath styled in our Colorado home? (Swipe to the third slide to see!)

This striped sweater and adorable lavender pjs were gifted to me from the team at , and I’ve been sleeping in these jammies all week! They’re super lightweight and incredibly soft!!

Use my code CE-NESTOUTWEST for 40% off any order at , including sweaters, bedding, pajamas, loungewear, socks, towels, robes, and more! I’ve been lucky enough to get to rep this brand for the past five years now, and I’ve never had a single complaint about any of their products—in fact, it’s quite the opposite: I love everything I have from them! Cozy Earth pajamas make for excellent gifts, too!

I’ll post the links to these in my stories today!

Lately…

1- The sun made its way back to the Midwest, Amen! (Note to self: I need to wipe down the fireplace screen asap.)

2- All three of our little ones have had colds over the past two weeks (when will it end 😩?!), but poor Bear took it the worst. He’s hopefully over the hump and getting back to his smiley self today, but I’ll take all of the sleepy, sniffly snuggles he’s willing to give in the meantime.

3- Jason finished the cedar ceiling in the music room, and now we’re testing out a bunch of paint + stain combinations for the walls, built-ins, and ceiling. TBD…

4- I finally am breaking in the “new” running shoes I treated myself to before I was pregnant with Barrett. Also, I’m loving this floor pattern in the pantry area. More to come when we button this space up!

5- We had a day that reached mid-sixties here, so we attempted a family jog. Everleigh made it to the end of the street before deciding a bike ride was not her ideal way to spend the next 25 minutes. Jason took one for the team and hung at home with her while I took the boys. 🏃🏽‍♀️

6- Ohhh just some more Barrett snuggles. I also bought some new bedding during recent and sales, and I love this combination. I’ll post the links in my stories, and make sure to use my codes when you shop! At , it’s CE-NESTOUTWEST for 40% off, and at , it’s CAITLINPAPPAS for 10% off $100+.

One year 🤍✨

Here are some views that have significantly changed in our home over the past year. We moved-in mid-February 2024, and after a six-month contracted renovation, Jason and I have gone back to our roots: we are DIYing the remaining projects. Partially because we need to save money for more important things, partially because we wanted our space back (even though we really loved some of our skilled tradespeople and formed some great relationships!), and partially because we feel that pride of a transformation so deeply when we do the work ourselves.

I wouldn’t change anything regarding how we approached this. I was super pregnant and uncomfortable during the bulk of the contracted renovation, which was May 6 until after Barrett was born in October. Also, the children were getting used to their new life in Illinois (new school, making friends), and we just wanted to be far enough along that it was mostly finished before Barrett arrived in October (which it was, *mostly* haha).

Now we’re working on smaller projects on the weekends, and I can’t wait to share how we’ve personalized all of the spaces I haven’t shown you yet! (Hint: We’ve gotten about halfway finished installing the butler’s pantry, where we took out the enclosed bump out with a standard swing door and put in some quarter-sawn oak cabinets with roll-out shelves and a wine fridge.)

FAQs:
Kitchen cabinets paint color?
- It’s a custom color by , but closest to SW Dover White

Curtains?
- Liz pinch pleat in Sepia Ebony, Café curtains are SaraLe Travertine, both from (discount code is CAITPAPPAS).

The tan sofa?
- It’s the Haverford left chaise sectional from in Fawn velvet. With children, I would recommend a different upholstery, but I LOVE the color. Code CAITLINPAPPAS takes 10% your order of $100+ at McGee & Co.

When your children think you’re a magic wizard because you can turn them invisible… 😏

It’s nice to have made it out of 10 days of single-digit temps! Hopefully this is the start of spring here in the Midwest 🤞🏼.

Never thought I’d say this, but we’re looking forward to more days with temps in the 40s 😆!
