We had some friends over for Memorial Day & being able to use and appreciate all our outdoor spaces is just the best. It’s been a lot of years of different designs to get to now because we’ve learned, grown & upgraded a lot over the years. It’s always so fun looking back at all the ways my favorite spaces have changed. I even just added to our new patio bench because I noticed the pillows were falling through the back, so I added some pieces of painted shiplap you don’t even see with the pillows on so they cant fall through. Continually growing, changing + adapting to make things just how we need them is my favorite 🌿

He still has all the new fish to add to his tanks, but we finally finished my son’s tree stand set up this weekend so he can get all the fish after school’s out soon 🐟 I’m so impressed with him using his own money + research to figure out all the ecosystems, but I’m also happy with how this stand came out! He had a specific aesthetic idea (2nd to last photo is his AI rendering for his idea on the left) & we made it come to life almost exactly. Since I just wrapped the bottom “tree stumps” made from 1x3’s, there’s still plenty of space inside them for all the million plugs & extra supplies he needs so he can still keep his room looking clean. We utilized the corner space well without taking away too much space in his room + I even love the view of his room coming down the hall 🌱

I’ve been cleaning out my workroom & found all this cute stuff I’ve either refurbished or handmade myself, so it’s all listed on fb marketplace if you’re local to Denver + looking for any cute home decor or furniture 👀

I have a bunch of cute things I’ve been finding + fixing up in my own house lately to list on fb marketplace tomorrow. This sturdy ladder bookshelf & adorable side table are some of them that I just painted (in Vogue green & Rustic Earth) and added my favorite paper to. The top is sealed and both are ready to add a cute, custom look to any home here in Denver {each are $30}!

My daughter wanted some narrow little shelves to display her beauty products + clear some space on her desk, so I reused some old shelves from her room to make her something that matches her grey/purple/dark wood theme that she chose & loves. I love being able to add new things my kids need as they grow + watching their interests continually change over time 💄💜🩶

This is a hard & sad post, but I think I’m ready to shut down this business for now. I jumped in with two feet two years ago not quite prepared for the type of totally custom work, working with clients & understanding it takes to run a business. I have a lot to learn, so I need to step back for now. The first year I learned & grew so much, but this year has been so much more difficult. It’s taken a lot out of me mentally & I’ve learned all the things I’m not doing well, so it’s time to really reevaluate. The mixture of people’s expectations (especially with AI photos everywhere 😫) & my own perfectionism just isn’t mixing right. A year ago I had two business builds go wrong back to back so I took the summer off to reevaluate & now it feels right to take more time again. I’ll still be posting my own home projects because I’m always doing new things in my house (like all these recent ones I’ve done lately), but I’m not taking on anymore client builds now & might not again unless I totally change my business policies and downscale a lot. Thank you to all the really supportive & encouraging clients I have met and for letting me learn & be apart of your homes 🏡

I’ve been working on my own home projects all week (I’ll share more about that tomorrow) & I finished this 2x4 patio bench seat today. I used wood benches we already had that at one point had been our table seating, fire pit seating & most recently behind our chicken coop. I decided to use them in front of our outdoor tv to watch soccer, football and movies this summer, but I knew they needed a back and cushion seat to be more comfortable so I just screwed 2x4’s to the back of the benches, added 15 degree cut angles to them to level the top for drinks & a 1x4 furring strip for the back. I used a 4 pack of square foam pieces for each bench to make the seat & just stapled fabric around them, then bought a bunch of outdoor pillows from Walmart and the thrift store to make them more comfortable. I painted the top in Prickly Pear green I had left over from painting a friend’s crib + my favorite brown Rustic Earth for the legs to clean them up from the weather and to match the table. I sanded down, painted + resealed our table top to make it match and then made a little coffee table out of a leftover plywood door from a closet build with the same colored 2x4 legs. It all matches, is pretty weather proof & give us so much more seating for the summer. I also love how now we have separate zones for all the things we love + use on our patio!

Since it was Mother’s Day yesterday I spend it every year buying plants + planting my garden, so here is the change from March to May this year 🌿 This spot was originally all covered in these big rocks with nothing else in it, so I painstakingly moved them all to the sides about 5 years ago now to make it a garden & every year I’ve made it bigger or added something new. Last year I built this big square arch for vining plants that worked really well + has held up through the weather just fine. I added some climbing flowers on both sides this year so I’m hoping they’ll grow more every year now too. This year I wanted to fix the really uneven walking path that was just some pavers sitting on top of the rocks so they started breaking apart. I dug the rocks out in a cute made up pattern, laid the pavers flat on the dirt & then added sand all around them to keep everything from shifting. Now it’s so much easier to walk on + looks more like a zen garden, so next I’ll be adding a diy fountain to it as well 🧘‍♀️

I was going to wait until my son was out of school to build him a tree stump stand for three new fish tanks he’s buying himself, but I had extra materials + time right now (I’ll be sharing an announcement about it next week) so I started on it & couldn’t stop because he was so excited! His idea was to have two tree “stump” bottoms, a shelf across them, a live edge top with driftwood coming down & I think we nailed it. He’s going to get a longer, lower tank to go across the top but he has all three ecosystems, plants + fish picked out for each one. They’ll all have plants too so I think it will look even better & more organic when they’re all full. To support it, I screwed some 2x4’s into the wall & then screwed each “stump” into the 2x4 legs so they all support each other. The tops are cut with a jigsaw from 3/4in plywood, then I wrapped the bases in more super cheap peel & stick wallpaper which works great to look like wood. The live edge wood came from an old mantle job, but I bought it at Lowe’s originally. I stained it all in Chestnut + Dark walnut and painted the 2x4’s in my favorite clay called Rustic Earth to make it all look connected and organic. I just screwed on driftwood pieces from Amazon & it’s all ready for his new fish friends when school ends 🪵🌱🐟
