I’ve already learned more than I expected

here’s to continuing to embrace the projects, progress, and making this home our own đŸ„‚

there are SO MANY things you don’t think about purchasing until after you move into a new home.
on their own, they’re not a big deal. but after a few trips to the store & online orders, they definitely start to add up.

some are only a few dollars. others are a bit more of an investment. either way, they add up a lot faster than i expected.

if you’re getting ready to move, leave a little extra room in your budget for the things you won’t realize you need until you’re living in the space. trust me you will need it. đŸ€‘

we bought our first home!! it’s been a week since we closed and WOW, what a whirlwind.

getting to this moment wasn’t easy.

a week before we were supposed to close, I got laid off. we had to change our financing, push back closing, and suddenly everything we’d planned felt uncertain.

after miscommunication with the movers, climbing what feels like a million stairs, and the absurd emotional toll acclimating my cat to her new home has taken from me, we made it.

but what I’ll remember most is how our parents showed up for us every step of the way. they opened their homes to us while ours was being built, made us countless homemade meals, checked in when things felt overwhelming, and never once made us feel like we were doing this alone. then, once we finally got the keys, they spent their weekends carrying boxes, building furniture, hanging blinds, making Home Depot runs, and helping us turn an empty house into a home.

this house still has empty walls, unfinished rooms, and a long to-do list, but after everything it took to get here, i’m just so so grateful.

home at last. 🏡 đŸ©”

apparently becoming a first-time homeowner means buying things like a hose, bulk paper towels, tissues, tums, pepcid, and a growing collection of random supplies before you even get the keys. 😅

social media makes the home buying journey look like furniture shopping and mood boards. in reality, as we’re getting closer to closing on our new house, a lot of it looks more like wandering through costco picking up homeowner essentials.

a few more days until closing, and the homeowner starter pack is coming together.

what was the most random thing you bought before moving into your home?

trying to enjoy this season of life instead of rushing through it. 🏡 if you’re already a homeowner, what’s something you wish you knew before closing on your house?

five days before we were supposed to close on our first home, I got laid off.

there were almost instant tears as my mind immediately went to “we’re going to lose the house”

what followed was a lot of phone calls, a lot of questions, and a financing plan that looked a little different than the one we started with.

thankfully, we’re still moving forward with our home purchase, but this definitely wasn’t part of the original plan. 🏡

i’m sharing this because i know i’m probably not the only person who’s assumed a major setback automatically means the end of the road.

one thing i’ve learned from touring model homes is that it’s rarely the furniture alone that makes a space feel so beautiful. ✹

model homes are designed to feel calm, cohesive, and inviting, but a lot of that comes from the details behind the scenes. the lighting, layout, scale, texture, and overall interior design all work together to create that polished look.

the good news? those are the same ideas you can use in your own home, whether you’re decorating a builder-grade home, moving into a new build, or simply refreshing a room you already have.

you don’t need a model home budget to create a space that feels elevated, warm, and thoughtfully designed. sometimes it’s just about paying attention to the details that make a room feel finished. đŸ©”
