The woodworking community has lost a true legend.

Mr. William “Bill” Hamer passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on February 24, 2026.

As co-founder of Forest Millwork, he brought years of experience making high-quality products well respected in the community. Forest Millwork became known for its beautiful kitchens and cabinetry in homes, offices, courthouses, churches, and many custom projects that needed specialized millwork.

It was Bill’s father who loaned him and Alan the money to purchase Forest Millwork’s first machines to begin operations.

After a successful career, Bill retired in 2016 but could still be found at Forest Millwork from time to time, working on projects for his home or loved ones.

Bill had the most contagious laugh, cherished his family, was a lifelong Carolina Gamecocks fan, loved the blues, and cooking on his Big Green Egg.

A celebration of Billy’s life will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at 1:00 pm at Morris Funeral Home in Asheville, NC.
