The reason, I love my job

Ever since I was a kid, I’ve been working with my hands. I helped my dad build our family home, learning early what real craftsmanship and hard work mean.

I started working on construction sites at a very young age, and that love for building never left me. Creating something that lasts, seeing a space come to life, and watching the happiness in my customers’ eyes after a beautifully finished bathroom remodel — that’s what drives me.

But it’s more than just the work. I truly value the connections I make along the way.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to leave a review — your words remind me every day why I chose this path.

Do it ONCE, do it RIGHT

Why Good LOOKING Tile Work Fails (Even When It “Looks Fine”) I have attached some photos of a job i had because the first contractor's tile was falling out the second time they used the shower. (It has been years ago now, and still solid as the day I installed.)

Cracks, loose tiles, or grout popping out. The crazy part? Most of it looked perfect when finished, then I had to re-do what should have been warrantied or just done right in the first place.

Here’s what’s usually going on:

Poor adhesion- this happens most commonly when there is no back buttering performed, or the mortar skins over before the tile is set. Unless you know how to inspect DURING the install, you won't know until there is a problem, usually a few months or a year or two after install. When setting the tile, touch the mortar with your DRY finger, if it sticks, it will stick to the tile, if not, it won't.

Wrong thinset or grout type — especially over plywood or old flooring. Mortar doesn't adhere well directly to wood. A primer or tile backer needs to be installed so it stays where it should. Some use mastic.....it is faster, and cheaper, but vulnerable to water and molds easily, so i never have. I do use it to seal air ducts though.

When hiring someone, always ask:

“What waterproofing system do you use? What are the important steps for waterproofing?” There are many legit ways to waterproof out there. It is always done behind the tile and tested before tile setting begins. An overnight leak down test is industry standard and a MUST have for any reputable contractor. I like waterproofing on top of the mortar bed, it helps keep mold down. Good for 50 years and warrantied for 10 years.

“Do you follow TCNA standards?” (If they don’t know what that means, that’s your red flag.)

Lastly, trust your gut. If you think something is off, it probably is. Always better to stop the job or wait and save if you cant afford the guy you trust. It is far more expensive to do it twice than to just do it right in the first place.

I post this kind of stuff because I’d rather see homeowners avoid problems before they start.

3 Quick Tips for Finding a Good Carpenter (Before You Regret It)

1️⃣ Check real reviews — Look for patterns, not stars. If everyone says “clean, detail-oriented, easy to communicate with,” that’s gold.

2️⃣ Ask how they do things — Pros can explain their process clearly. Hacks just say “don’t worry, I got it.”

3️⃣ Meet the person who’ll actually do the work — Not a salesman. Not a middleman. You should talk directly to the craftsman.

Hope that saves someone a headache (or a do-over bill).

Torching the HACKS, protecting the CUSTOMER

Money is always a key factor in choosing **anything**. When seeking help for your next project, make sure your hard-earned money isn't wasted on poor-quality work that will need to be redone. While I appreciate the work some of these hacks get me, it breaks my heart when customers' hard-earned money is wasted. Never let money be the ONLY deciding factor when hiring professionals. Keep these things in mind:

1. Reputation. Look for reviews on third-party platforms like Nextdoor. Look for patterns in style or qualities mentioned. A good rule of thumb is: if it is something everyone is saying, it is probably true.

2. When talking with them, ask some specific questions and see how they respond. An easy example is asking how or why something is done. Usually, posers and hacks will become readily apparent here—easier on larger jobs.

3. Understand what guides them. Ask some personal questions and see how they answer. What is their focus? What are their goals? The single largest differentiator between excellent work and poor work is the commitment to it.

4. Awards and third-party certifications can be great—or not. More often than not, the barriers to getting them are less about the work and more about checking a list, and they are often pricey. If they have awards, ask who received the award and what role they will be playing if you hire them. (Obviously, this only pertains to larger jobs.) It might have been awarded to someone in the company who plays a small role, not a crucial one. Reach out to the awarding organization and find out what the requirements are to get one. Usually, these awards are really marketing programs or loyalty programs for the companies issuing them.

5. Know who you are talking to and who is truly in charge. I have been in the trades for a long time now. Shady companies commonly utilize practices such as calling the salesman the "project manager" when they really have little to no control over how it is run or executed. Ask them if you can meet with the guys who will do the work, ask them how working for the company has been, and get their names in the contract as your workers.

6. Get a detailed estimate. It will protect you if any changes need to be made in the future. It keeps everyone honest and puts every single thing you will be doing in writing. There should be little to no room for interpretation in common work.

As a dedicated craftsman, I specialize in delivering projects that reflect lasting quality, attention to detail, and pride of workmanship. Because I work independently, every stage of your project is handled by my own hands, ensuring consistency and a standard of excellence you won’t find elsewhere. I often serve as a true one-stop shop, with the ability to perform a wide range of trades at a high standard. This rare versatility means my customers enjoy reliable workmanship across all aspects of their project, along with a deeper understanding of how each trade impacts the others. The result is smoother ex*****on, fewer gaps, and higher overall quality. Tile and finish carpentry remain my favorite trades, but whether it’s carpentry, tile, or any of the many other skills I bring to the table, my approach never changes: no shortcuts, no compromises — just honest work at a fair price. Guided by strong principles and respect for my customers’ vision, I take pride in creating results that stand the test of time.
