People don’t always understand what I do because interior designers often get confused with interior decorators and the label is often interchanged and roles often overlap.
With a BS in Interior Design from the U of MD, my education was more akin to interior architecture. Working in residential remodeling for 30 years now, I focus on space planning, reconfiguration, and everything listed under the Interior Design column above. My services do overlap into the Decorator column, where I help bring a desired style to your space, can assist with finish selection and provide furniture layouts. Just not the furniture itself. 😉

My clients have moved into their beautiful new home after a whole-house remodel that we started planning in early August. Our design & build team was graciously invited for lunch today to celebrate our work and see how our client added her finishing touch to their home. ✨ I love her fun, ecclectic aesthetic and have enjoyed collaborating with this repeat client who brings whimsy and adventure to the process!

Demo began earlier this month on my most recent basement project. My clients needed an improved layout due to long, narrow spaces on all sides of the central staircase. With some reconfiguration, I was able to achieve wider dimensions for their media area and a “Boho”hangout/play room for their girls. With a balance of relaxed sophistication at the family/adult hang-out areas, and a space just for the girls, this basement should get lots of multi-use for years to come!

Redirected a Bethesda staircase to follow the curve of the front exterior wall. This whole-house project is still in progress with the bathrooms and kitchen at various stages of remodeling, painting and finish work to be continued, and we’re working on selecting a light fixture to hang down into this 2-story foyer space...Stay tuned for updates...

A past client called me this summer to tell me she found her dream home! It’s a beautiful contemporary-style house overlooking the Potomac River. She asked me if I would help her update the kitchen, front entry, and two of the bathrooms. I told her I was all in! …This past week, we finalized the kitchen design and are aiming to place the cabinetry order this week. 🤗

I find designing basements fun! This is a recent project in Brookeville that is wrapping up construction soon with MSI Residential Renovations...With basements, I get to work from a fairly blank slate, with the exception of a few existing conditions. Support columns, ductwork, and mechanicals make for some fun space-planning challenges!...This client needed more space for their young family and visiting grandparents. They also requested a play space, gym, improved bathroom, and storage. The playroom can’t be completed soon enough for their two little girls! 🙂🙃
