New ‘Canna Qamea’ developed in 2025 using natural cross pollination method on Cannova series plants. Dwarf, just as its mother plant, this canna offers soft pink-rose blooms atop dark purple-green bronze-hued foliage with wide paddle shaped leaves. Mysterious looking new canna named after island of Qamea in Fiji 🇫🇯.
In our trials this canna proved being fast grower to 3-4 feet with slow spreading habit. Performs best when planted in organic rich soil, plenty of water in full or partial sun location where it keeps foliage colors best and blooms firmly attached despite rain and wind gusts.

Officially, my gardening season is over. I was able to dig out my last standing Ensete banana tree just before the first freeze hit New York City last weekend. This Abyssinian banana is getting bigger each summer over the past 12 years through compounding seasonal growth. It weighs 130 pounds, with just the corm weighing around 50. It's ready for winter dormancy rest, just to come back again next summer.

This calathea is like phenix but in icy form as it actually returned from being frozen this winter as heating disruption happened at the greenhouse and temperature plummeted down to 30F and stayed for over 24 hours.
