Mothing has become a serious new addiction for me. With the recent 90F+ days, it's allowed me to stay connected with the garden. Just hang a white sheet, shine visible and UV lights, and wait. So far, we've logged 337 species (out of the 3,000 species in Ohio). Some are tiny; some are huge. And, most are colorful or have interesting patterns!

In preparing next year's list of must-have plants, I am definitely going to choose some to attract moths.

Lindsey is convinced it should be a national holiday when Ashy Sunflower (Helianthus mollis) blooms! The Soldier beetles look like they agree.

This summer Roxanne and Lindsey were able to take many plant related field trips!

In June there was a marathon day of greenhouse hopping. Groovy Plant Ranch, Natives in Harmony, Scioto Gardens and Dills Greenhouse. The groups plant packing and stacking skills were put to the test! The wonderful shaded picnic area of Groovy Plant Ranch comes highly recommended. Natives in Harmony remains a favorite shop with great prices and selection.
Later in the month the Athens County Humane Societies Cat Shelter Fundraiser tour was a fun day out.
July brought Mothing Nights at Roxannes! Lindsey’s daughter Helen really enjoyed the experience! Future plans to promote which plants support moths are in the works! So fun.
In August Lindsey attended the Midwest Native Plant Conference in Beavercreek, OH. It is put on by the Midwest Native Plant Society. It was a wonderful weekend of inspiring speakers, cool field trips and a whole lot of plant shopping! So many great vendors. It comes highly recommended.
And finally a tour of the recently opened Buckeye State Nursery just north of Zanesville, OH. It was inspiring to see all the work they’ve done and their future plans! Right next door was a very impressive White Oak!

Roxanne and Lindsey love our local businesses! White’s Mill has such a great selection of annuals and perennials, including lots of natives. Plants are looking happy and hunky!
