Fall is time for planting. We did just that yesterday, completing a project several years in the making. Lots of our plants found new homes in our garden this year. We look forward to seeing how each species does. Some are species we have grown before, and some are new to us.
This bed is on our Athol property which is located just east of Athol. Our "soil" is very well drained and gravelly. This site will provide a good example of a growing space elsewhere on the Rathdrum Prairie, which includes much area in Kootenai County. These are rather harsh growing sites, lots of rock, hot and sunny in the summer, temperatures down to minus 10 degrees in the winter.
We feel our native plants have an edge in this environment since they have evolved with our northwest landscapes over time.
