Meet the newest resident at This is Cowboy. He is a Zebu, which is a miniature breed of cattle. He was sent to a livestock auction, and we couldn’t let him end up in the wrong hands. He will now spend his life being spoiled here at the farm. 🥰🐮

It wasn’t the plan for today, but when we heard abt a skinny goat in a shelter an hour and a half away, we knew we had to bail her out and give her a loving home . She seems very sweet despite her condition and having to be in a shelter listening to dogs bark all day. We are on our way home and she’s going to get the love she deserves. ❤️

Carrion Flower in boom!
Careful leaning in for a big sniff 👃🏽..the flowers have the smell of rotting flesh, in order to attract the flies 🪰which pollinate them.

The “Stapelia gigantea” is native to desert regions from South Africa to Tanzania. It’s common names include Zulu giant, carrion plant & toad plant.

Hoyas in bloom and they smell AMAZING 🤤. In fact, there’re more fragrant in the evenings to help attract their pollinators.

🦟 When insects visit the flowers, they sit in the center part where pollens accidentally stick to their legs, mouth, wings, or body. If the same bug visits another flower, pollen reaches inside the female reproductive part of the bloom, and pollination is complete.
However, hand pollination is almost impossible due to the complex structure of the flower and the difficulty in identifying the male and female parts.

🌸 Hoya blooms are often called ‘porcelain flowers’ due to their shine and waxy appearance.
