Two juveniles were arrested in separate incidents involving fi****ms at Coweta County football games Friday night, one at the Northgate vs. Newnan game with a handgun and another near Trinity Christian School with a BB gun, authorities said.
A student from East Coweta High School was arrested Friday night at the Northgate vs. Newnan football game after being found in possession of a handgun, according to the Coweta County Sheriff's Office.
At approximately 9:30 p.m., Northgate High School administrators and sheriff’s deputies providing security at the game observed the student in the home-side stands with what appeared to be a concealed handgun in his waistband.
When confronted, the student attempted to flee but was quickly apprehended, and the firearm was recovered, authorities said.
The arrest occurred without incident to other students or attendees, and officials confirmed that appropriate legal consequences will follow.
“We greatly appreciate the quick action of our school resource officers and administrators that led to the safe resolution of this incident,” Northgate High School Principal Dr. Ashley Wilkes said in a statement. “Student safety is our top priority, and we encourage students to report any safety concerns immediately.”
No further details about the student or potential charges were released. School officials stressed that safety remains a priority and encouraged parents to contact the school with any questions regarding safety procedures.
In a separate incident on the same evening, Coweta County deputies responded to a 911 call reporting two juveniles walking toward the Trinity Christian football game with a handgun.
The juveniles were located, and one was found to be in possession of a BB gun. Charges are pending for the juvenile with the BB gun, while the other juvenile was released to his parents.
Both incidents prompted school officials and law enforcement to remind the community of the importance of school safety and reporting any suspicious activity.
