Tropical Flowers Don’t Need to Be Complicated

More flowers doesn’t always mean a better arrangement.

These tropical ginger blooms already bring enough shape, texture, and movement on their own. 🌿

Sometimes the most dramatic arrangement comes from using fewer materials.

Achiote Isn’t Just a Seasoning 🌿❤️

Achiote isn’t just something you find in the kitchen. 🌿❤️

Growing up in Colombia, I remember opening these fruits and using the fresh red-orange pigment from the seeds like paint.

This is achiote (Bixa orellana), a tropical American plant whose seeds produce the natural pigment known as annatto. Long before it became a commercial food coloring, some Indigenous peoples of the Americas traditionally used achiote pigment for body painting, including ceremonial uses.

For me, it’s also a little piece of childhood. 🇨🇴

Forget Wisteria—Meet Petrea 💜

Wisteria gets all the attention—but have you seen Petrea volubilis? 💜

This tropical climbing vine produces spectacular cascades of purple flowers and thrives in warm climates like Colombia. Even its leaves are unusual—they feel like sandpaper.

A beautiful vine that deserves more attention.
