Yesterday evening in Alaska, the sky transformed into something almost unreal. A rare atmospheric phenomenon known as a “fire halo” appeared at sunrise over the pyramids of Giza in Egypt this morning 🔥🌅. The spectacular sight illuminated the sky with a bright circular ring of light surrounding the sun, perfectly aligned above the ancient pyramids and creating a breathtaking moment where nature and history seemed to meet in harmony ✨.
Scientifically, this phenomenon is called a solar halo. It forms when sunlight passes through millions of tiny hexagonal ice crystals suspended in high-altitude cirrus clouds ❄️. These crystals refract and bend the sunlight at a specific angle, usually about 22 degrees, producing a glowing ring around the sun that can sometimes appear fiery or rainbow-colored 🌈.
The magical display did not last long, however. Like many atmospheric halos, it faded after only a short time as the position of the sun and the cloud crystals changed in the morning sky ⏳.

This breathtaking view happens when a temperature inversion traps cool, moist air in lower valleys while warmer air sits above it 🏔️. The moisture condenses into a thick layer of clouds or fog that spreads like an ocean across the landscape.
These “cloud seas” usually form at elevations of about 800–1500 meters (2600–4900 ft) above sea level, where mountains rise above the cloud layer and create this surreal perspective ✨.
