Women make up less than 30% of the AEC workforce—and an even smaller percentage hold leadership roles. At HGOR, we’re changing that narrative as we celebrate the incredible women that make up more than 50% of our staff.

We believe diverse perspectives drive better solutions and are proud to have strong, innovative and inspiring women across all levels of our team. Their vision, dedication and expertise elevates everything we do, and we are committed to continue breaking barriers together.

As we honored the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. yesterday, we reflect on the landmarks within Atlanta that allowed him to speak out on injustice and advance civil rights.

At Hurt Park in December of 1963, Martin Luther King Jr. addressed a group of ~2,500 civil rights activists at a rally held to demonstrate unity toward the desegregation movement in Atlanta, likely sharing inspiration through principles of justice, love and compassion.

HGOR is proud to have a hand in such a historically-rooted project. The renovations at Hurt Park not only provided necessary repairs, but created an equitable space to be used by all. Today, Hurt Park is a place where GSU students, residents and visitors can pass through or gather regardless of race, religion, background or physical ability. It marks a place where we can continue to be inspired by MLK Jr’s words and actions as we work towards a more inclusive world.

Projects Making Progress in 2024: Rowen Phase I Roadway

After breaking ground in December 2022, Rowen’s Phase I Roadway will spark economic development and advancements in agriculture, medicine and the environment by creating access to over 800 acres of fully-serviced land for the future use of corporate campuses, multi-tenant buildings, research labs, and collaborative spaces within the mixed-use “Rowen Village.”

With a shared commitment of environmental stewardship, HGOR guided the planning of roadways at Rowen to achieve minimal impact on the site’s natural ecosystems. The planting plan along the Phase I Roadway carefully integrates a variety of native plantings influenced by their support of surrounding habitats and local wildlife, their ability to thrive in bioretention areas, provide shade and enhance aesthetics.

The design of the Phase I Roadway incorporates complete streets, allowing vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists to safely use the roadways and trails, while simultaneously managing stormwater through a series of bio-detention cells.

The East/West road section is anticipating completion by summer, with the North/South section completing construction by the end of 2024.

HGOR's work has profoundly impacted the heart of over the years. While its main thoroughfare, Peachtree Road, held a reputation as one of Atlanta's most prestigious corridors, in reality, it was in dire need of improvements. Before the revitalization, the area lacked walkability; it was not functional or a sought-after destination for social engagement.

HGOR breathed new life into a 15-block section of Peachtree Road by rerouting streets, widening paths, and enhancing streetscapes, ultimately gifting the community a dynamic space and a seamless network of connectivity. This transformative stretch of Peachtree improved public safety, created a clearly identifiable urban character and prompted over $2 billion in real estate development.

HGOR's work has also led to future developments supporting social gatherings in nature. Recognizing the scarcity of open space in the residential district of Buckhead, HGOR reimagined the underutilized area, now Charlie Loudermilk Park, into a vibrant local destination. The park's redesign prioritized visual openness and seamless integration with neighboring retail, hospitality, and restaurant venues, bolstering user safety by implementing SPI overlay streetscape standards. Stormwater management innovations further underscore the park's functionality. Designed for adaptability, Charlie Loudermilk Park easily transitions for various programming needs and is now a versatile venue for events.

Our dedication to prioritizing Buckhead's pedestrian experience has contributed to a much-needed resurgence and supports future growth.

Why HGOR?

As part of HGOR's stewardship platform for future generations, several pro-bono efforts and environmentally-led projects have allowed the firm to emphasize long-term impacts through integrating green infrastructure and sustainability methods.

Grant Park Gateway demonstrates innovative thinking and imaginative designs- instrumental in cutting-edge solutions for parking issues and began with substantial pro-bono efforts for the Grant Park Conservancy. As part of a team effort, HGOR’s design, which seamlessly tied all project components together, featured a 2.5-acre accessible green roof atop a semi-underground parking garage that replaced the existing surface parking lot and significantly improved connectivity.

Thoughtful grading choices provided parking functionality, including direct ADA access from each level, allowing park enjoyment by individuals of all ability levels. As improving pedestrian circulation was a driving factor, implementing various connectivity points within a dynamic programmable space was vital. To ensure sustainability, another critical project component, a cistern was incorporated to capture rainwater for green roof irrigation. Additionally, HGOR utilized native plantings across a broad palette appropriate for the unique site conditions on the green roof.

So…WHY HGOR?

Because HGOR creates and implements unique approaches that achieve significant accomplishments such as the World's 1st triple-certified project with LEED, SITES and Parksmart certifications.

Why HGOR? We create places for people.

A priority in all of our projects is considering the end user. We design functional spaces where people want to be and with over 30 years of experience, it’s what we’re good at.

Within large-scale new development projects like the Town at Trilith where economic and environmental aspects often lead planning and design decisions, HGOR knew there was a greater opportunity. Thoughtfully incorporating stormwater management into functioning landscapes allowed the team to craft a variety of social spaces that bring people together and foster community building within the 235-acre neighborhood.

Central spaces within the urban-style town center drive a sense of place for the mini-city through integration of sculptures by local artists into the landscape, hardscape and streetscape design. Including ample open space encourages planned events and impromptu gatherings amongst the community, while spreading pocket parks throughout residential areas creates opportunities to enjoy intimate get-togethers with neighbors.

At HGOR, we’re equipped to blur the lines between work and leisure by creating flexible and creative community spaces that act as a catalyst for social engagement and elevate a broader sense of community.

Comfort & Healing Found in Nature.

To deliver a meaningful place that capitalizes on nature's many healing attributes, HGOR created a series of outdoor experiences at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta’s Center for Advanced Pediatrics—the first project as part of the broader 70-acre North Druid Hills campus transformation. Artistic sculptures, engaging hardscape elements, and a sensory-oriented plant selection adorn the space. Creative amenities woven throughout the site ensure a healthy and site .

This thoughtful blend makes the exterior gardens and flex space functional and sustainable while supporting physical and mental health, cognitive function, and social connectivity.
