Roseburgco I Joist rafter connection to the Rosboro X Beam glulam. Strong-Tie LSSR Slopeable and Skewable hanger. In this application, I like to nail the seat first, then tight to the joist and web stiffeners. Catalog shows .148"x.1.5" nails into the joist and .148"x 2.5" into the header. . This nailer is the Beck America F70g we started using in 2019. You can read my review in The Journal of Light Construction. Engineered Woods Eyewear

I wouldn't normally gang cut this few rafters, but wanted to explain the set up to the guys before we gang cut 32' Roseburgco I Joist. These 2x12 DF are for the garage. Plumb cut, then level cut. Big Foot Headcutter XL and USA MS391 with chisel tooth chain. . Notice the level cut is dead on. Too bad this will hide in the LP Vented Soffits 🤣🤣 . . Hey Contractor CA I use Stihl too 😉

SET-3G epoxy anchoring adhesive can be used in cracked and uncracked concrete. It is recognized per ICC ES AC308 for post-installed rebar development and splice length requirements. Why is this important? Retro-fit applications to name one. This video shows how to use the adhesive correctly. It is imperative that we 1) drill the proper size hole 2) clean the hole 3) mix the adhesive properly. SET-3G is also approved for mutilple vacuum-drill bit systems without further hole cleaning. As you can see here, the Tools USA did a fantastic job of keeping the dust down during drilling but this particular system doesn't clean the hole well enough. Follow Strong-Tie "blow, brush, blow" installation instructions. . You'll notice that I hit rebar. This isn't optimal, so talk to your engineer. Often when an engineer specifies SET-3G, we will get a note regarding what to do when we hit it. Over the years, this has not once been an issue. We had a job about 14 years ago where we had to do a lot of epoxy adhesive because of design changes. The foundation was placed, then the property sold and a new design dictated adding threaded rod to a certain depth for hold downs. The engineer said not to worry about it if we hit rebar. . The Tools bit shown here has no trouble with rebar. Just be patient, use the same bit and don't push hard on the tool. You can see when I get through the rebar the tool "catches". Light touch is all that's needed at that point. Handmade Boots

How To: Exposed Aggregate. Let the batch plant know that you're going to be placing exposed aggregate and they'll add pea gravel. They'll also review with you the size of the pea gravel. Coca-Cola is a very consistent and inexpensive way to get just the right sugar water ratio. Place it, float it, steel trowel, it rub it down. Just kidding on that last part. . Spray the top of the concrete with the Coca-Cola, the sugar will re**rd the top layer, allowing the concrete to stiffen up underneath. Then we're just going to remove that top layer of cement, exposing the aggregate.

Here's it look at some details for Roseburgco I Joists as rafters. Beveled strip means we can avoid a bird's mouth cut. Structural connection at the ridge courtesy and adjustable hanger from Strong Tie (LSSR). . Why I joist as rafters? Because I can get longer lengths than 2x12, they're lighter and, I can get more height at the plate for insulation. Engineered Woods

Can your subfloor adhesive hold my weight? 🤣🤣🤣 Doubt it. Did you know that gluing your subfloor to the joists isn't required by code? Why do it? It actually makes the assembly stronger. Joists span slightly farther and we reduce the possibility of squeaks down the road. The fasteners provide strength for the floor diaphragm and often engineers spec the actual fastener length and diameter. . We've been using this adhesive since 2017. Follow the instructions to get maximum holding power. Engineered Woods

Strong-Tie IUS series I Joist hanger with "Strong Grip Seat" doesnt need nails from the hanger into the joist and usually eliminates the need for web stiffeners. This means lower installed cost. I've glued hangers in the past, its a waste of time in my opinion. "I do it for peace of mind" you say? I install them correctly for "peace of mind". . . Strong Tie recommends "As you may have already discovered the hard way, though, paint doesn’t apply to metal well. But there’s a surprisingly easy step you can take to make sure the paint adheres evenly to the metal and doesn’t immediately chip off: Just dip the galvanized metal connector in plain vinegar or wipe it with a cloth soaked in vinegar. The vinegar removes any oiliness and etches the surface so the paint will adhere better. If you immerse your connector in vinegar, however, don’t leave it in there for more than a couple of minutes or the vinegar will remove the galvanized coating. " I realize that we are talking about paint no glue like PL, but in my experience, the glue didn't do much good if any. . Of course, these are just my opinions. If you want to glue them, more power to you. Just start with the proper installation first. If you disagree with me, let's meet, you can buy me a beer and we'll disagree about this whilst enjoying the disagreement 😉 . One other note, the Roseburgco floor layout specifies the nail needed in the hanger in each location which is pretty cool. This hanger with a short joist span just needed the 1.5" Paslode nail.
