Hello !
We are seeking additional volunteers to join our Canine Team!
Before you fill out that application, let me tell ya what it takes!
We need volunteers to work with our canine kids, people that are serious about a commitment to give back! Why is a commitment so important, can't I just come in when I can? Because consistency is everything to the dogs, it makes them feel safe and most importantly, Loved ❤️. Volunteering with the dogs is a passion that lies deep in your heart, that desire to make a difference! To watch a dog come in so scared and confused and to be a part of that dogs journey as they blossom is such a gift.
We need people that are dog savvy to a certain degree. I will also let ya know that you're not going to come in and walk a dog right away, It's a process and this is when the commitment begins.
You will go thru Kennel safety, which goes over how to approach a dog in a kennel environment, how to take a dog out of a kennel environment, etc. How to keep yourself and the dogs safe in a kennel environment!
Your work with the dogs is going to start off with you shadowing one of our Senior Team Members. This means, the senior member has control of the dog while you observe how we handle, what verbal and physical cues we use, what we are always watching for on a dog (triggers, reactions, etc).
Why does it matter? Why can't I just come in and walk a dog?
It all matters to the 4 legged ones that are sitting in those kennels day in and day out. They need people like you for guidance, for hope, for confidence building and sometimes just a nap on your lap. These dogs are relying on us to get them out during adoption hours and show them what life is all about while keeping safety a top priority! When a shelter dog gets to consistently see you and that dog looks you in the eyes and simply says "I trust you", it imprints a pawprint right in your heart.
So, ya still interested? FAAS needs you and the Canine Kids need you!
