A fun garden project in the works! This is a perfect example of planting for the future.. in the three terracotta colored pots are two gourd plants each. In this raw uncultivated piece of yard we took a short cut to grow this gourd tunnel by cutting the bottoms of the pots off and lightly tilled the soil beneath like raised beds.

The gourd vines will be trained up the fence using clear command hooks until it reaches the top at which point a metal arch tunnel will be attached and allow the gourds to hang down in the fall.

The first annual color of the season! I’m keeping these protected from the 30 degree temps until next week when it starts to warm up.
