Hey everyone! It’s Brandon from Brandon Louis Designs. Let’s talk about the classic art of crafting a mud bed for custom shower floors. This old-school technique is a game-changer for durability and precision. Here are some pro tips: • Perfect Slope: Aim for a 1/4 inch drop per foot from the shower walls to the drain. This ensures water flows correctly and prevents pooling. • Mix Mastery: Combine 4 parts sand with 1 part portland cement. Add just enough water to get a “snowball” consistency—moist enough to hold together but not overly wet. • Weep Hole Wisdom: Before laying your mortar, place some pea gravel around the drain’s weep holes. This keeps them clear, allowing any moisture that gets beneath the tiles to drain properly.Embracing these time-tested methods ensures a rock-solid foundation for your shower.
