Some structures just aren’t ready to be torn down, they still have plenty of life left in them. This little outbuilding was one of those projects.

Instead of replacing it, we restored it and gave it many more years to serve its purpose.

We started by pressure washing the roof and siding to remove years of buildup. From there, we replaced damaged siding, carefully caulked and sealed all windows and doors, and prepped everything properly to ensure a long-lasting finish. We wrapped it up with a fresh coat of paint that completely transformed the look.

What was once worn and weathered now looks clean, solid, and renewed.

✨ From Carpet to Custom Hardwood – What a Transformation! ✨

On this project, we removed all the old carpet and installed a high-quality underlayment followed by real hardwood flooring — and let me tell you, we truly enjoyed this one.

Not many homeowners choose real wood floors anymore, so when they do, we appreciate it. There’s just something timeless and solid about genuine hardwood that you can’t replicate.

One challenge we ran into? There were no transitions available that were long enough to match this flooring. So what did we do?

We headed to the woodshop and custom-built our own.

Because we keep exotic woods in stock, we were able to craft transitions that match the flooring perfectly. You’d never know they weren’t factory-made — and honestly, that’s how we like it.

While the old flooring was torn out, we knew it was the perfect opportunity to freshen everything up. We painted all ceilings and walls, and that made the transformation even more dramatic. Clean, bright, and completely refreshed.

Projects like this remind us why we love what we do — craftsmanship, problem-solving, and delivering something truly beautiful at the end.

🚧 Why Flashing Is NOT Optional 🚧

This job is a perfect example of what happens when corners are cut.
The original deck was built without counter flashing at the entry door, and over time water intrusion did exactly what it always does.

As a result, we found:
• Rotted seal plates
• A completely compromised end joist and band joist
• Multiple studs that had rotted away

All of this damage stemmed from one skipped step.

Flashing may seem small, but it is critical to protecting your home from moisture damage. When it’s missing or installed incorrectly, the damage doesn’t show up right away—but it will show up eventually, and it’s never cheap.

Thankfully, in this case, we were able to reuse the existing siding and did not have to re-side the back of the home. That is not always possible, and many homeowners aren’t that lucky.

👉 The takeaway:
When building a new deck on your home, always hire a professional deck builder who understands proper flashing, waterproofing, and structural protection. It’s not just about how it looks—it’s about protecting your investment for years to come.
