🍂 Naperville Leaf Collection Begins! 🍂

The City of Naperville has kicked off its annual leaf collection with the following cycle weeks:

🍁 First Cycle: October 21
🍁 Second Cycle: November 4
🍁 Third and Final Cycle: November 18 - November 27

Did you know that fallen leaves are packed with nutrients that can benefit your lawn and garden? Instead of bagging them, consider these helpful tips from The Conservation Foundation to save time, money, and help the environment:

🌿Repurpose Yard Waste for a Healthier Landscape🌿
Repurposing leaves and other yard waste is not only eco-friendly, but it can also enhance the look of your garden while reducing the need for extra resources.

Here are some easy ways to make the most of your fallen leaves:

1. Let Leaves Stay
Leave fallen leaves and twigs in your yard where they naturally fall. Leaves vary in texture and can be shredded at home to speed up decomposition, keeping them from blowing away. Shredded leaves also make excellent soil amendments when mixed into your garden in the fall.

2. Compost Your Leaves

Chop leaves before composting to help them break down faster. Leaf mold (composted leaves) makes fantastic mulch, soil conditioner, and a great addition to organic lawn care.

3. Use Your Mower's Mulching Feature

Skip bagging your grass clippings! By mulching and leaving them on the lawn, you’re helping to keep your grass healthy, while reducing waste and conserving landfill space.

The first cycle of bulk curbside leaf collection begins today. If you're participating, follow these guidelines to help make collection easier for City crews:
🍂Rake your leaves to the curb before 6 a.m. of each cycle.
🍂Only place leaves in piles. Do not include branches, twigs, rocks lumber or debris that can damage leaf collection equipment. If you choose, you may sweep up leaf debris and include it in your weekly yard waste.
🍂Rake leaves away from storm drains to prevent flooding.
