The Hoya rescue is spouting new leaves! Just checking in with an update on the Hoya I rescued from a local plant stand. It is a Hoya wayetii, normal plus variegated. The rescue was declining, in wet standard potting mix, a pot too large for the roots, and not looking good. After I got the Hoya home, about 1/3 of the leaves fell off. I allowed the leaf ends to dry and stuck them into a pot to root. Some did not take and died. One leaf went into a propagation vase and sprouted roots right away. Looks like ten of the leaves are taking root (they are still green after all this time) I repotted the mother plants into smaller clay pots, allowing the potting mix to dry out faster. For the potting mix, I used 2 parts of regular potting soil with 1 part perlite, 1 part bark, and 1 part sand, mixed in. The good news is, the parent plants are pushing out new leaves now! They all live under a tabletop grow light on a 10-hour timer. I am, truly, The Tropical Houseplant Doctor! 🙂
