What are your thoughts on open shelving: design statement, or something you’d regret in five years?
Here are mine: instead of focusing on open versus closed, start with what you actually want to see every day.
Styled with intention, open shelves work like art. Installed without a plan, they can become the place everyday clutter lives.
A few things to weigh before you commit:
The pros: they open up a space (imagine how much smaller this pantry would feel without them), show off a gorgeous wall or backsplash, and add a collected, decorative feel.
The cons: you can’t just put anything up there, and they’re rarely the money-saver people assume. A thick, finished, well-lit shelf is a design decision, and it can cost as much as traditional cabinetry.
If you have the room to style open shelving beautifully and keep it that way, it can be stunning. If it’s destined to hold the overflow, closed storage will serve you better and still look timeless in ten years.
Save this for your next kitchen or pantry decision. And tell me: are you a fan of open shelves, or do you prefer closed cabinets?
