Tight spaces? No problem.

Rigo and Marco are installing a 92% efficient gas furnace in a foam insulated attic. The 92% (and greater!) “condensing” gas furnace is an important HVAC solution if your home has a foam attic. Because the foam creates a tight seal from the outside, the existence of “combustion” air is no longer available for a regular 80% gas furnace to burn properly. 80% gas furnaces are found on the majority of Austin homes, and it is not uncommon to see that the wrong type of equipment has been installed in a foam attic.

Without a 92% furnace, the result will always be a condensation buildup inside of the flue pipe, which can leak into and rust the metal heat exchanger. The 92-96% condensing furnaces are designed to mitigate this condensation by the use of a concentric vent - which draws in the necessary combustion air from the outside, while also simultaneously draining the resulting condensation through it’s specially designed heat exchanger and drain.

If you have a home with a foam attic, it’s probably a good idea to see if the proper HVAC equipment is installed in order to prevent harmful CO gases from entering your home. You know who to call!!
