Horticulture Mower County MN Mower County Horticultural Society meets monthly on the 2nd -Tuesday, @ 6:30 PM at the Hormel Nature Center, 1304 21st NE, Austin, MN; meets monthly from Sept.

to June, and sponsors the Horticulture Building at the Mower Co Fair each August. The Mower County Horticulture Society was Founded in 1993 to promote the art, science and enjoyment of gardening; to have fun! Several members are also Master Gardeners. The benefits of membership include participation in monthly meetings with speakers, programs and garden tours. In May, members share their garden fa

vorites at the annual Plant Sale which provides funds for service projects and educational events throughout the year. In August the club oversees the Horticulture building at the Mower County Free Fair in Austin, MN. Visit the prize-winning displays and entries of ornamental, vegetables and artistic creations entered in the fair. Several members are also Extension Master Gardeners who volunteer with projects throughout Mower County. Annual dues are $15 per adult or $25 per couple/family. The February meeting of the Mower County Horticulture Society will be held next Tuesday, February 10, 2026 at 6:30 PM at the Ruby Rupner building at the Hormel Nature Center.

Our guest speaker will be Laura Irish-Hanson, who is a University of Minnesota extension educator. She will be speaking on innovative methods of seed starting.

Mower County Fair is 8/5/25! If you're planning to enter into 19-Town and Country Horticulture or 20-Cut Flowers, Floral Design & Containers, you must preregister and enter by 8/1/2025 https://mowercountyfair.fairentry.com/Fair/SignIn/21072. You may then drop off Sunday, August 3 from 12-6 or Monday, August 4 from 9-4:30

OPEN TO THE PUBLIC
The April meeting of the Mower County Horticulture Society will be held next Tuesday, April 8, 2025 at 6:30 PM at the Ruby Rupner building at the Hormel Nature Center.

There will be a presentation of a slide show featuring all the best of 2024 gardens and club activities from some of the Horticulture Society members.

Indoors

February 1st - Celery, Leeks, Onions, and Shallots. Most perennial flowers.

March 1st - Broccoli, Brussel Sprouts, Cabbage, Cauliflower, and Sweet Potato slips

April 1st- Kale, Parsley, Endive, Peppers, & small seeded annual flowers

April 15 - Basil, Eggplant, Tomatoes, Herbs & large seeded annual flowers.

Outdoors

April 15 - (Seed): Beets, Carrots, Kale, Lettuce, Parsley, Peas, Potatoes, Radish, and Spinach. (weather permitting). Also onion transplants.

May 1st - (Transplants): Broccoli, Brussel Sprouts, Cabbage, Cauliflower, and Celery.

May 15 -(Seed): Beans. Corn, Cucumber, Melons, Pumpkin, and Squash,
(seed or transplant) Herbs, annuals, and perennial flowers

June 1st - (Transplants): Eggplant, Peppers, Tomatos., and Sweet potato slips.
