✂ Time to prune your roses!

The best time to tidy up your roses is from mid-August to mid-September. Fall rose pruning is less drastic than spring pruning—try not to overdo it!

To rejuvenate them:
1️⃣ Cut them back by about 30%
2️⃣ Remove dead, unproductive and crossing canes
3️⃣Let all healthy leaves remain but remove any that are less than prime
4️⃣ The result should be more of a reshaping of the shrub than a hard prune
5️⃣ Work in a bit of compost at the base of the plants
6️⃣ Feed them with a high-phosphorus organic fertilizer
7️⃣ Apply seaweed as a soil drench to help them withstand environmental stressors and pest pressure

❗No pruning for climbing roses:

Fall pruning is for drifts, shrubs, and knock-outs. Avoid pruning climbing roses; doing so may reduce their production. They should be pruned in spring after they finish blooming.

🌹The only exception is...

If you notice dead or diseased canes, or if you find they’re climbing somewhere you don’t want them to.
