May marks Northern HammerWorks’ 15th year in business! Nick Yarham, owner of Northern HammerWorks, would like to highlight the progress made throughout the years, and we are so excited to share it with you.
“After leaving my previous position at another local construction company, I decided to pursue self-employment because I felt it would be a better fit for me. Northern HammerWorks officially began in May of 2011.
When first starting the business, I had a helper, Kyle Nickel, who was home from college for the summer. I had a number of framing, siding, and roofing jobs lined up, and thankfully, he was able to help me with those projects.
We started with an old, beat-up brown work van and a determination to work hard every single day.
Shortly after the start of the business, my brother Brian started working with Northern HammerWorks and handled some of the sales for a number of years.
In 2014, my dad began working with me as well, before eventually retiring a few years later. This was an important point of growth for the company because we began focusing more on kitchens and bathrooms, which is where my dad truly excelled.
Two years later, in 2016, we felt the company had grown enough to rent our first shop for storage. We started with a 3,000-square-foot building in Avon Lake.
In 2017, we hired our first project manager, John Borland. This was a major step for the company because I was finally able to have someone else manage projects alongside me. That decision gave me more freedom to focus on improving and growing the company.
Later that same year, the company had grown enough that we needed additional space, so we began renting another 3,000 square feet to house our custom cabinet shop.
In 2018, I was able to purchase the property where we are currently located at 531 Miller Rd. in Avon Lake. In 2019, we built the initial 7,200-square-foot building on the property. Over the next five years, we continued expanding and added two additional buildings to keep up with the growth of the company.
More recently, in 2024, we opened a showroom at our Miller Rd. location and began offering material selections directly from our own showroom. Just last month, we also began partnering with Premier Custom Flooring. We now utilize the Premier showroom at the Drug Mart Plaza in Avon Lake, giving our customers an even wider range of products and selections to choose from.
I am incredibly proud of the progress Northern HammerWorks has made over the past 15 years, and I am excited to see what the future holds as we continue planning the next big moves for the company. Most importantly, I want to thank everyone who has supported us throughout the years. This company would not be what it is today without the support of our community, our customers, our employees, our family, and everyone who has believed in us along the way.”
The photos showing our logo carved into the log were taken outside of the first building we ever rented. That 5,000 lb custom-carved log is especially meaningful to us because it was the very first Northern HammerWorks sign.
The remaining photos highlight our current facility and the space we now use every day to produce the best possible results for our customers. Looking back at these photos reminds us just how far we have come, and we are so grateful to share this journey with all of you.
In our next post, we would like to highlight a few of the individuals who helped shape Northern HammerWorks into what it is today!
