Friends of ours out in Quilcene/Chimicum area are working on a beautiful project, and they need more cedar logs to make it happen. Check out their work .

Most of our clients and work is in Kitsap Peninsula and Bainbridge Island, and that’s close enough if there can be a load of cedar harvested. If anyone has some trees they’d like to donate for the cause, please be in contact as mentioned in the poster.

🕷️ As we were removing this witches broom (dwarf mistletoe) diseased hemlock there were many large spiders in every branch, nook and cranny. We just called it the spider tree. Two days later we came back to do another part of the job and the whole snag was covered in webs. Cool to see the habitat snag make habitat so quickly. 🕷️

Don’t top trees, folks, without talking to a qualified arborist. These were two ~100/120-year old cedar who appears to have gotten topped about 40 years ago and grew crowns of new tops. Of course they also developed major rot pockets that ran crown to base and had to be removed from the danger they posed. There are very few reasons to ever top a tree and these cedars would have done well to not be one of those. We at One Earth Tree Care do our absolute best to ensure the health of the tree. We have ISA certified arborists as well as a TRAQ-certified arborist on the team. For best practices and care of trees, reach out for a consultation.

We did some serious sculpting of the new land here in Indianola at our home. Unfortunately, the trees facing Fern Street were all pretty sickly and suffering from rot, which is pretty common in post-logging regrowth. Most of the trees were also posing potential harm to the house and hearing the creaking of their branches above the home and cars was not reassuring. Thus, we removed these trees and are excited to mill them and use the lumber in our cabin remodel, integrating them safely back with the land.

One Earth Tree Care is hiring!

We are looking for experienced workers to add to our team. We are looking for both ground crew and climber. Both positions requires at least 1 year experience within the professional tree industry or landscaping, and ideally 3 or more years experience for the tree climber applicants. We will train the ground crew to climb over time, if they desire.

We work in a drug-free professional environment. Must have a valid driver’s license with a decent driving record and willing to do a background check. Our range is primarily (95%) on Bainbridge Island and North Kitsap, very occasionally working further to South Kitsap or Port Ludlow. During Covid pandemic we have been driving our own vehicles to job sites.

Preference to applicants who want to stay on for 3 or more years.

Primary Duties for ground crew:
Be available to work Monday - Friday from 8 am - 4:30 pm (currently operating in 4 day week schedule during Covid)
Be able to lift 50 lbs regularly
Ability to listen well, learn/improve skills over time and work in team environment.
Perform arbor tasks as instructed by the crew leader
Prune trees and other woody plants to achieve health, attractive shapes, fruit production, building/view clearance, or remove low hanging branches
Set climbing lines in trees and secure them for climbing.
Work up to 12’ high off the ground using a climbing belt and being harnessed in, or climb ladders to access work areas.
Work as team to help remove hazardous trees, using various methods to get the tree safely on the ground.
Cable, brace, tie, bolt, stake, and guy trees and branches to provide support
Prune dead and crowded branches from trees using hand and pole tools and chainsaws
Operate ropes to lower branches and wood with ropes and blocks and friction devices.
Plant, transplant, or remove trees or shrubs.
Safe operation of chipping equipment, including feeding of brush and limbs into machines
Safe operation of arbor vehicles and equipment, including but not limited to: dump truck, chipper, winch, stump grinder, tractors, mini-skid steer, chainsaws, pole pruners, backpack blowers, and hand tools
Clean, sharpen, and lubricate tools and equipment
Excellent customer service skills, ensuring clients needs are met in an accurate, complete, and timely fashion by demonstrating courtesy, efficiency, and professionalism.

Primary Duties for climber:
In addition to ground crew duties, climbers will have additional duties at heights greater than 12’ up to 200’ above ground.
Inspect trees to determine if they have disease or pest problems
Climber will be responsible to maintain and inspect daily the climbing gear issued to them.
Climber will know how to install tree-guard cables.
Know the differences, applications and climb both single rope technique and double rope technique depending on the situation
Climber will only climb on gaffs unless absolutely necessary for safety or if the tree is being removed.
Climber will be responsible for safe work positioning in trees and during rigging.
Climber will practice safe weight limits for the equipment and the tree when rigging and climbing. We always say it’s better to stay safe and take smaller pieces than finish the job as fast as possible.

Perks:

Starting wage based on skills, experience, and certifications.
Ground crew $15.00-$25.00
Climber $20.00-$35.00

3-month raise after demonstrating safe working ability, reliability, and good work ethic.

Yearly raise.

If you think you are a good fit for either position, please contact us via email:

We will send an application upon contact and respond from there.
