Ellicott® is the world’s oldest and largest builder of small and medium sized cutter suction dredges. We built all of the dredges used in the original construction of the Panama Canal and ever since then have focused on the world market for cutter dredges. Ellicott®'s dredges are used for sand mining, harbor and navigation maintenance, water reservoir restoration, river and channel dredging, beach

restoration and erosion control, and environmental clean-ups to name a few. We have designed and manufactured over 1500 dredges, more than any other manufacturer, and have served customers in over 80 countries. Ellicott® engineering leverages the latest 3D modeling technology available to ensure that our design efforts are streamlined from concept through production. We utilize Finite Element Analysis techniques to eliminate the potential for design failures and expedite our time to market. Ellicott®’s engineering staff draws from both a long history and a diverse background to bring sophisticated designs to the market which are easy to operate and maintain.

From Shop. To Ship. To Sea.
This one was a Team Effort.

It's been a huge week for Ellicott Dredge Enterprises, LLC. We’re thrilled to announce the successful delivery of a new Ellicott® Series 1870 G2 Dragon® dredge, the Sand Piper, to the City of Virginia Beach.

This new Ellicott 1870 G2 dredge will replace the aging Ellicott 970 (Rudee Inlet II), which has served its community reliably since 1983. The Sand Piper combines the robust, trusted design of the original 1870 series with advanced modern features, including upgraded hydraulics, operator controls, and the latest EPA-compliant engines.

The effort was no small feat. The entire process—from sales and engineering to production, testing, and delivery—was a true company-wide effort. It touched nearly every department and required close collaboration between Ellicott’s Baltimore and New Richmond sites. We also want to give a special shout-out to our vendors who were instrumental in this project.

Most importantly, we're incredibly grateful for the strong partnership with the City of Virginia Beach. We are honored that the City of Virginia Beach chose Ellicott and look forward to seeing the Sand Piper provide many years of reliable service.

In 1954, the dredge known as the Río Magdalena’ was shipped to Colombia to operate in various river dredging projects including the Canal del Dique, the Magdalena River, and the Sinú River. The historic dredge continues its operation to this day. To read more,

Starting 2024 with a BANG 💥 💪!! One of our 1270 Dredge will be used to renourish Folly Beach, SC due to damages caused by Hurricane Ian. Our 1270 will be used to renourish Folly Beach for coastal storm damage reduction, dredge the Folly River federal navigation channel, and place material on Bird Key to help reduce erosion in the critical bird habitat.
