The U.S. International Trade Commission found that increased imports of quartz surface products were causing serious injury to the domestic industry. On July 31, 2026, the White House announced a new safeguard tariff-rate quota beginning August 15, 2026.
For covered quartz surface products that are not exempt, imports within the annual 140-million-square-foot quota will be subject to an additional 25% safeguard tariff. Imports exceeding the quota may be subject to a 50% safeguard tariff. The quota is managed in quarterly periods, with a 35-million-square-foot cap every 90 days, to limit import surges.
These safeguard duties are added to other applicable duties, including Section 301 tariffs where applicable.
What could this mean for quartz countertop pricing? Import costs may affect slab pricing, availability, lead times, and ultimately the cost of some quartz countertop projects. The exact impact will depend on the product, country of origin, supplier inventory, applicable exemptions, and when the material enters the country.
This does not mean every quartz countertop will increase by the same amount. The safeguard applies to covered quartz surface products and does not apply to quarried stone products such as granite, marble, soapstone, or quartzite.
If you’re planning a kitchen or bath remodel, or quoting a project for a client, now is a good time to review material options and pricing. We can help you compare surfaces and plan your project with the information currently available.
