What a transformation at The Purple Cow! 💜

I was contracted as the paint and coatings expert to address the failing coatings and properly prepare and paint these surfaces so they were ready for the new graphics.

Seeing the finished project is especially rewarding because The Purple Cow and the Christian Outreach Center do so much for our Baton Rouge community. I’m proud to have played a small part in bringing this project together.

STAIN MATCHING SUPERSTAR ⭐

Okay… maybe I never had a trading card in 1990. 😂

But I have spent more than 40 years working with color, stains, paints, and coatings.

Matching new wood to existing floors, cabinets, doors, stair treads, beams and trim isn’t about grabbing a can of “close enough” off the shelf.

It takes an eye for color, an understanding of wood, and knowing how stains and clear coats are going to change the final result.

The floor doesn’t need to be replaced—it needs to work with the room.

The existing floor color is too orange and disconnected from the warm brown tones in the brick, so we’re testing a color-change system that works with the existing finish rather than completely removing it.

These samples let us dial in a warmer, richer brown that ties the hardwood into the brick and makes the two surfaces feel like they belong together.

And this is why we test first. Color isn’t just about the floor—it’s about everything surrounding it.

This was a tough one. 🎯

These stair treads have five distinctly different colors of oak, ranging from very light boards to some seriously dark ones.

The challenge wasn’t simply finding a stain color. It was figuring out how to bring that wide range of natural wood tones together and make the finished stairs work with the existing laminate flooring.

That takes more than picking a stain off the shelf.
A lot of testing. A lot of adjusting. And knowing when you’ve finally nailed it.

Five colors of oak. One laminate floor to match. Challenge conquered.

Sometimes getting the stain color right means going back to basics—real wood, real samples, and a whole lot of experience.

A stain can look perfect in the can and completely different once it hits the wood. That’s why I test, adjust, and test again until the color is right.

Your paint is more than color — it’s your home’s first line of defense.

Small cracks, peeling, mildew, open joints, and failed caulking can allow moisture to get behind the coating.

Once that happens, what starts as a small maintenance issue can turn into blistering, peeling, wood damage, or a much more expensive repair.

Don’t wait until the paint starts falling off.
Take a walk around your home a couple of times a year. Look closely. Catch the little problems before water turns them into big ones.
