Tonight is shaping up to be a dangerous night across the Great Lakes region. The Storm Prediction Center has just introduced a level 4/5 moderate risk for portions of northwest Indiana and north central Illinois. This is a tornado driven moderate risk where we may see several long track, intense tornadoes this evening. Outside of the red moderate risk, a large enhanced risk (orange) surrounds it with similar hazards… strong tornadoes, very large hail and damaging winds. This risk even extends up into our neck of the wood.
Our messaging remains simple. Read carefully.
1. If you have friends or family who live in the yellow, orange or red zones, CALL THEM. Let them know what’s ahead. The threat ramps up locally for us after 7pm, but it will be a few hours earlier for people in Illinois and Indiana.
2. Make sure you yourself have MULTIPLE ways to receive weather warnings tonight. EAS alerts on your phone, a midland weather radio, a weather app on your phone with alerts, and local news/us here at MSC.
Stay weather aware tonight. The potential for a dangerous evening lies ahead. Our hope is that we don’t see this come to fruition, but as of now, all signs point to a potent severe threat taking place.
