Happy Summer Gardening, friends!
Is your garden looking a bit sparse, or are you looking to add some extra color and flavor to your beds? In Zone 7b, it is not too late to get growing! We still have a long, beautiful growing season ahead of us.
Here are some great options for seedlings, annuals, and perennials you can still plant right now:
Vegetable Seedlings & Direct Sow:

• Transplants: Tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, and sweet potatoes.
• Direct Sow: Bush/pole beans, summer squash, zucchini, cucumbers, okra, and pumpkins. Summer Annuals: Add instant, vibrant color to your borders or containers!

• Seeds/Transplants: Zinnias, cosmos, sunflowers, marigolds, and nasturtiums. They will provide beautiful blooms and attract pollinators all summer long!

Long-Lasting Perennials: Establish these now to enjoy beautiful foliage and flowers year after year.

• Great choices: Coneflower (Echinacea), black-eyed Susan, hosts (for shade), salvia, and lavender.

Quick Tip: Because we are moving into the hotter, drier months, make sure to mulch well and give your new plants plenty of water to help them establish!

I accidentally discovered Winter Sowing two years ago.

I threw some Dianthus – Sweet William seeds in a pot and forgot about them. Left them outside. In the snow. I had no idea what I was doing — I just forgot.

They came up anyway. Strong, full, and blooming like they had something to prove.

Turns out, Sweet William actually does better when you let it go through a cold period first. That chill breaks dormancy and tells the seed it's time. The snow wasn't a mistake — it was exactly what they needed.

Two years later, these are one of the biggest stars in my garden. And I have at least 20 plants available right now — already strong, already blooming, ready for your garden today.

Have you met the Purple Coneflower? Because she deserves a proper introduction. 💜
This gorgeous native wildflower — officially called Echinacea purpurea — has been quietly doing incredible things for thousands of years, and most people just think of her as a pretty garden plant. She is so much more.
Her name literally comes from the Greek word for "hedgehog" because of that spiky center cone. A German botanist saw her in the 1700s and thought: that's a hedgehog. And honestly? Correct.
Native American tribes used her as their go-to remedy for practically everything — toothaches, snakebites, sore throats, bee stings, and colds. She was the original medicine cabinet on the prairie. That little tea bag of Echinacea you reach for when you feel a cold coming on? Thousands of years of tradition right there in your mug.
In winter, after her petals drop, her spiky seed cone becomes a five-star restaurant for goldfinches, cardinals, and blue jays. The golden rule: don't cut her down in the fall. Let her feed the birds all season long. She's still working even when she looks like she's done.
And those drooping petals that sweep downward? Not sad — completely intentional. That raised center cone standing tall while everything around it drapes down is basically her power pose.
If you're not growing her yet, this is your sign. She's drought-tolerant, deer-resistant, and blooms for up to two months straight. She doesn't ask much. She just needs a sunny spot and a little faith. 🌞

If you’re planting this week in zone 7b, this is a GREAT time to get things into the ground. It’s not too late. Many vegetables can still be planted as succession crops — meaning you can plant the same crop every couple of weeks for continuous harvests throughout the season.

And if you can’t sow these seeds yourself… I got you.
I still have lots of healthy seedlings ready for your garden.

One of the best ways to stretch your harvest is by growing “cut-and-come-again” crops — plants you can harvest multiple times instead of just once. Some root crops give a double-harvest - the leaves and the root.

Some favorites that keep producing:

🧅 Scallions

Today was one of those full greenhouse and garden days 🌿

I spent most of the day potting up plants, sowing seeds, watering, organizing, and answering messages from customers. Than you for showing up and purchasing plants.

One of the plants I worked on today was Solomon’s Seal — a beautiful woodland perennial I recently added to my collection. I’m still getting to know this plant myself, but I can already see why gardeners love it.

Its graceful arching stems and soft dangling blooms make it such an elegant addition to shade gardens and woodland-style spaces.
