Researchers are developing a genetically engineered (GE) American chestnut tree and hope to win government approval to plant it throughout the wild forests of the Eastern US where the trees could spread their GE pollen and seeds freely. This would be a massive and irreversible experiment with our fo...

Are you growing sweet potatoes this year? Are you using the potato in water method? This method is so much quicker. I shared this last year but I thought I would share it again for my new followers. Simply lay the sweet potato in some potting soil. Wiggle it down in a bit then water. You can see the wonderful results in the video. This only took 3 weeks and 2 days! So anyone else use this method? Or any other method I haven’t heard of before? Please share!

Hello all! How is your garden growing? Your starts? Are you planning a pollinator garden or simply adding more pollinator 🐝 friendly plants to your existing garden? These pollinator garden planning worksheets help you keep track of your efforts and see where there are "holes" in your pollinator garden. Keep track of which plants you have for pollinators, when they bloom, where you got them, where they're planted... This way you will know if you have any season when you have only very little in bloom or maybe nothing in bloom for pollinators to forage. Remember, pollinators need a balanced diet too! The more variety they have the easier it is for them to get all the different nutrients they need. I hope you are safe and well!

🌻Sunflowers to save bees!? A new study conducted at the University of Massachusetts Amherst found that "eating sunflower pollen dramatically and consistently reduced protozoan pathogen infection in bumble bees and reduced a microsporidian pathogen of the European honey bee." They believe that the chemicals found in the sunflower pollen is aiding in the protection against the pathogen. Kind of like a monarch butterfly. They can eat milkweed but it is poisonous to their predators and thus makes them poisonous to their would be predators. One great reason to grow sunflowers as if their beauty isn't enough! Plant some sunflowers this year!😁🌻🌻🌻

Looking through the backside of one of the islands in our tunnel garden. We put these old wagon wheels in the island last spring. It is a fun space to hang out at night with the solar chandelier and other solar lights, as well as a fire in the fire pit. I think the kids would have a fire every night if they could. They especially love roasting any food over the fire I will allow them to. I think the backdrop of the garden makes the perfect setting for all this. Have a wonderful weekend and peaceful Sabbath my friends! Passover, the marking if our saviors crucifixion is almost here. This always seems to mark the beginning of spring for us.Yay!😊🌱😁

I finally have some plant babies going! I always feel like I’m the last one to start seeds up here in ND zone 3. However, it is so important that you don’t start your seeds before their time! Once our plant babies reach a certain stage of maturity they need to be transplanted to their permanent home. If not they will go into decline. That is why we time the planting based on average last frost. The plant babies will be just where they need to be in maturity to be ready to plant out in the garden or permanent container. It so hard to wait while everyone south of us is planting away but it is the right thing to do. My plants will be healthier and happier. So, for anyone else in zone 3 or lower hang in there! Our time has come! And for all the others who are able to start earlier, thanks for sharing your progress! As much as it makes me want to plant and it feels like my turn is taking forever to come around, I still enjoy seeing other people’s plant babies growing! Happy planting to all😁!!! 💗 ~ Jaci
