I want to again thank everyone who supported my efforts one year ago today and participated in the "Equity & the Environment: The Challenges for AIA & NOMA in 2023 and Beyond" symposium at the Ossining Public Library in New York on December 14, 2022:
Assemblywoman Dana Levenberg
Maddi Zachacz
Jack Travis, FAIA NOMAC
Illya Azaroff, FAIA
Jason Pugh, NOMAC, AIA, AICP, LEED AP
Pascale Sablan FAIA,NOMA,LEED AP
Juhee Lee-Hartford
Lori Borowiak
The mission of the event was to better understand the urgency of climate action for our future and its interconnectedness with equity in our profession.
It was a great event thanks to the esteemed panelists, program sponsors and collaborators along with the words of architect J. Max Bond and scientsist Carl Sagan.
I am especially grateful to the support of the Board of the AIA Westchester + Hudson Valley, of which I was the President last year, to everyone who spoke at the event, to the Ossining Public Library which hosted our event, and to all our sponsors including New York State's NYSERDA (see video link for full list of sponsors).
Thanks to our videographer, Peter Skorewicz of Video Ventures (https://lnkd.in/eWvkkKs4) the entire event was filmed and edited and includes the short award winning video by the Village of Ossining which led to a NYS $10M Downtown Revitalization Initiative grant.
I am pleased to share the YouTube video of the entire Symposium here:

With the United Nations COP28 Summit statement this week agreeing for the first time “a clear call on countries to transition away from fossil fuels" and this Friday's historic AIA inauguration of architect Kimberly Dowdell, AIA, NOMAC to the Presidency of the The American Institute of Architects (AIA), there is no doubt of the interrelatedness of Climate Action and Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, both national goals that have been formally adopted by the AIA.
Tune in on Friday, December 15th from 7:15pm - 7:45pm for the historic inauguration of Kimberly Dowdell, AIA, NOMAC who will be the one hundredth AIA President and the first Black woman to fill the position in AIA’s 166-year history:
