It’s Tips/Tutorial Tuesday!

One of the MOST common questions we get this time of year:

“Am I overwatering… or underwatering?”
The tricky part? They can actually look VERY similar.

🌱 OVERWATERING signs:
• Yellow leaves
• Mushy stems
• Drooping even when soil is wet
• Leaves falling off
• Mildew, fungus, or rot
• Soil staying soggy for days

☀️ UNDERWATERING signs:
• Crispy brown edges
• Dry lightweight soil
• Wilting during heat
• Dropping flowers
• Dry brittle leaves
• Pots pulling away from soil edges

Quick tip:
Before watering, stick your finger down into the soil first. A droopy plant does NOT always mean it needs more water!
Here in the Lowcountry, too much water during rainy humid weather is honestly just as common as not enough 🌧️

Good morning LowCo Gardeners 🌿💧

It’s Tips/Tutorial Tuesday!

Let’s talk morning watering vs evening watering during summer in the Lowcountry.

Morning watering is BEST whenever possible.

Why?
• Plants have time to dry off during the day
• Less standing moisture = less mildew and fungus
• Roots absorb water better before afternoon heat stress
• Wet leaves overnight can encourage disease and rot in our humid Southern climate

Evening watering is sometimes necessary during extreme heat, but soaking plants late at night while temperatures stay warm and humid can create the perfect environment for fungal issues.

Quick tip:
Water the soil and roots more than the leaves whenever possible 🌧️☀️
