What Are The Benefits of Planting Trees?
A recent experiment by Texas nursery owner and TikTok creator Smith'sGardentown shows just how much trees can help cool down any space.
Armed with an infrared laser thermometer, the creator tested the temperatures of different surfaces on a 103-degree day. The results were illuminating. The temperature on asphalt was a scorching 120 degrees while over in the grass, the thermometer read a cooler 97 degrees. But the real magic happened under the shade of an oak tree; the temperature here was a somewhat more comfortable 92 degrees.
But the benefits of adding trees to your backyard extend beyond just cooling. Trees provide shade, which protects you from harmful UV rays. They also improve air quality by absorbing pollutants and releasing oxygen. In fact, a mature tree can absorb up to 48 pounds of carbon dioxide annually.
