This 150 year old timber frame from Japan will be a part of Uncarved Block's new shop space. This is a 'kura' which very roughly translates to storehouse. It was originally used for holding silk.

We purchased the frame through and it is now disassembled and on it's way over. When it arrives, we will perform the necessary repairs and then raise it up! They have a number of amazing frames, primarily minka, but also an entire abandoned Buddhist temple compound. Unfortunately, there are millions of these stunning buildings that are destined to be destroyed due to a number of factors.

Back in the shop again with an international guest (and super-) star, . These white ash timbers were cut off of the land, custom milled by , and then timber framed in our shop. There are 4 of these arched brace trusses in the house.
