Ice Cream Cone Shelf

It’s a cup shelf, but it’s called Ice Cream Cone Shelf because that is what we named it back in 2012 when we made V1. The old version had places for 10 cups, was pricier with an ambiguous finish. This one is wieldy, which I thought should be the opposite of unwieldy, and it is.

Made from a sheet of folded aluminum, clear anodized with a glass bead finish. Ships with cups and wall mounting hardware.

It cannot be fussy. It cannot be fussy. It cannot be fussy.

Taylor likes pizza boxes, the quality of the print and the material. Che-Wei likes bank boxes, how they nest and are good for storing stuff. Our packaging cannot be fussy. It cannot be wasteful. Could it be functional afterwards? How does it look on a shelf? in the Annex? Neon orange sucks for printing. Again, it cannot be fussy. It cannot add unnecessary extra cost to the person buying the thing. It cannot feel like we are using packaging to trick someone into thinking the thing is fancier than it is.

CW&T standard packaging is now out in the world. It would not have made it without the generous help of .ooooaaaa who had tremendous patience and did a lot of the legwork, who wrangled the effort with more care than she needed to give us xox and who showed up one day and lended their 2cents, a conversation which produced the Staples over MoMA direction, which captures the vibe of this effort in its entirety.
