The power of a professional finish. 🕊️✨ There is nothing quite like Benjamin Moore’s White Dove paired with matte gold hardware.

​This piece went through the full Ritter Rehab treatment: repaired, sanded, shellacked, and sprayed for a smooth-as-butter finish. We even gave the original hinges a gold upgrade to match the new look.

This was a tough one for me for reasons not related to the work itself. But I finally felt the time was right to finish it and get it ready to be returned. I hope it lives up to the vision and expectations we had for it and I hope it brings some joy and peace to the family.

This is an example of a Gossip Bench (also known as a telephone bench or a "telephone table"). These pieces were a staple in mid-century homes, designed specifically to hold a landline telephone while providing a seat for the person making the call.

Two-Tiered Table: The top surface was meant for the heavy rotary or touch-tone phone, while the lower shelf often held the phone book (back when they were thick!) or a notepad for taking messages.

Integrated Seating: Since phone calls in the mid-20th century were stationary events, having a built-in chair was the ultimate convenience.

Art Deco/Mid-Century Flair: The "sunburst" or floral cutouts in the wood panels suggest a more decorative, stylized approach than the purely utilitarian models.

Wood Finish: The dark walnut-style stain highlights the grain beautifully and gives it a modern, rich feel.

Bold Upholstery: The vibrant, psychedelic mandala pattern on the seat is a fantastic "maximalist" update. It contrasts perfectly with the traditional dark wood, turning a vintage relic into a statement piece.

Since we don't use landlines much anymore, these benches have found new lives in modern homes as:

Entryway Organizers: A perfect spot to sit and put on shoes, with the table holding keys, mail, or a charging station for cell phones.

Accent Pieces: They work great in hallways or corners where a full-sized desk or chair might be too bulky.
