Worked on a pair of bathroom refreshes this week with some pretty awkward floor layouts and tight corners to work around.

Before any flooring went down, I templated both rooms out with builder’s paper and transferred everything onto the sheet vinyl in the garage. Takes a little extra time upfront, but it makes the actual install go much smoother.

Both floors dropped in almost right on the first try with very little trimming afterward.

A lot of finish work in the trades comes down to prep and planning. Slow down in the beginning so you’re not fighting mistakes later.

Another day and another wall framed for a customer. Project 2 of 2 helping out this customer of mine. At least today was an actual wall instead of just a fill in.

The customer made a funny comment as we walked into this suite. "All of these years in this building I put up a wall and take down a wall and put up a wall." Years of different tenants in and out of these suites wanting and not wanting walls in the same spot must be humorous.

I'm just glad I could help out this time.

As always, how can I help make your home, or office, simply more beautiful.

I'm mostly a residential contractor, but every once in a while I get pulled into some light commercial work too.

One of my long-time customers needed some steel stud framing/infill work done ASAP because his normal commercial carpenters were tied up, so I stepped in to help keep things moving.

Funny enough, once I got to the job site, I realized the space used to be one of the old Stone Creek Coffee spots I used to stop at years ago. Definitely brought back some nostalgia and old memories.

And yes, at Benjamins Home Reconditioning, We Love The Lake Too!

This kitchen got a full backsplash and accent wall update after the countertops were replaced and the old tile no longer really fit the space.

This one had a lot going on between the long countertop runs, wrapped accent wall, metal inserts, outlet layout, and just keeping the mosaic pattern flowing cleanly from wall to wall. Tile like this looks great when it’s done, but there’s a lot of layout and detail work behind the scenes to make everything line up and feel balanced once it all comes together.

I'm really happy with how this one turned out. The new tile gave the kitchen a much more updated look while still tying into the existing cabinets and woodwork really well.

As always, let me know how I can help you make your home simply more beautiful!

This customer was looking to have all tile replaced—backsplash and accent wall.

First thing I do is see how the original install was done. This one held tight, so instead of fighting it piece by piece, I cut the drywall out and started fresh.

Demo isn’t always just smash and haul. Once I got behind the accent wall, most of it came off in one large section, and I carried that through the rest of the backsplash—taking tile and drywall together so everything stayed clean and square.

New drywall went in, blended it back to the original, and gave me a fresh, flat surface to work off. Especially with tile like this—any variation shows.

Last shot is the start of the new layout. If those first rows aren’t right, you’re chasing it the rest of the job.

That’s where it starts coming back together.

This project started with removing a relatively small section of wall—but as you can see, it made a big impact on how the space feels and flows.

Since the chimney chase couldn’t be eliminated, the goal shifted to turning it into a focal point instead of something to work around. Wrapped it in custom cedar shiplap, added built-in shelving, and tied it in with the nearby barn door for a cohesive look. Everything here was built and fit on site.

With the wall opened up, it was also the right time to handle drywall repairs throughout and bring the ceiling back to one uniform finish. There were signs of multiple past patches, so getting that cleaned up made a huge difference once everything was painted.

Other parts of the project included patching in sections of the existing flooring (using homeowner-supplied material so it blends in), and coordinating with the electrician to add can lighting in the living room and hallway.

Projects like this always come with a few curveballs—especially in older homes where nothing is perfectly square—but that’s where the detail work matters most to make everything come together clean in the end.

Saw a simple dust collection idea and figured I’d give it a shot.

Just some PVC into a bucket—nothing fancy, but it actually catches a decent amount.

Big win is not having to drag a shop vac around. Buckets are always in the van, and this setup takes up way less room while still cutting down the mess.

Still dialing it in, but I like where it’s headed.

A couple weeks ago, I posted some pictures of custom woodwork pieces being built and stained out in the garage and backyard.

This is what all of that work was for.

The center piece of this project was wrapping this chimney chase and turning it into something that looked intentional instead of just a plain wall sitting in the middle of the room.

Everything was custom built for this space — cedar shiplap, trim, and the rounded corner shelves. Nothing here was off the shelf.

The cedar was stained dark to tie into a nearby sliding barn door and some of the other darker wood accents throughout the house so it felt like it belonged in the space.

There was a lot of measuring, test fitting, sanding, staining, and finishing that went into this one, but I am really happy with how it turned out.

I will share the rest of the project soon,

I caught a stretch of good weather last week right when I needed it, so the garage turned into a spray booth and the back patio turned into a full-on shop. Not the typical setup, but sometimes you’ve got to make the space work for you.

The project I'm currently working on has a lot of custom pieces going into it. Everything is being cut, shaped, and finished to fit the space—not just pulled off a shelf and installed. Even the smaller details are being milled and profiled to tie into what’s already in the house so it all feels intentional when it’s done.

A few behind-the-scenes shots from the build:
– custom rounded shelves
- Trim profiles routed to match existing trim
– stain and finish work
– and a glimpse of the “outdoor shop” setup

Install is next—this is where it all starts coming together.

Stay tuned.
