This heat snuck up on us, and with very little spring moisture, lawns are struggling. Now’s the time to get those sprinklers going and make sure your lawn is getting the water it needs to stay healthy. The key is deep, infrequent watering — not watering every day. Daily watering can actually lead to shallow roots and increase the risk of lawn disease.

Here are a few watering tips:
💧 Water deeply just 2–3 times per week
🌱 Aim for 1½–2 inches of water per week
⏰ Water early in the morning between 5–9 AM
🚫 Avoid evening watering, which can promote lawn disease

A strong watering routine encourages deeper roots and helps your lawn handle the summer heat much better!

Leaf blight occurs on lawns during hot, humid weather, typically in the spring when conditions are transitioning from cooler to warmer patterns. The disease enters grass plants after evening mowing, followed by excessive nighttime watering. In heavily infested patches, the fungus damages the lawn in circular areas that often form large, bleached spots. Closer inspection of the plant reveals individual leaves dying from the tips downward. It can be spread by mowing or watering equipment, as well as foot traffic.

Here are a few tips to help your lawn recover and prevent leaf blight:
▪️ Bag your mower clippings for the next few mows.
▪️ Water only in the morning.
▪️ Avoid mowing in the evening.
▪️ Keep your mower blades sharp to avoid damaging the grass.
