A theme we keep hearing at RES from our permitting team is that on most large industrial projects in Maryland and Virginia, permitting eats half to two-thirds of the total delivery time. And most of that isn't agency review. It's incomplete applications, requirements that didn't get coordinated upfront, and mitigation that gets pulled together after impacts are already defined.

We think the fix isn't a faster process. It's an earlier one. The projects we see that hit their dates run permitting in parallel with design, not after it.

Proud to share that the Klamath River Renewal Project has received the Distinguished Project Award from the International Fish Passage Conference.

As the largest dam removal and river restoration effort in U.S. history, this project reopened 400+ miles of habitat for salmon, steelhead, and lamprey and is already driving ecological recovery.

RES supported revegetation across 2,200 acres and restoration of key tributaries, helping rebuild critical habitat at scale.

Grateful to be part of this effort alongside Klamath River Renewal Corporation and McMillen, and to see this work recognized by leaders in fish passage and river restoration.

We’re proud to announce the approval of the Silvis Bat Summer Habitat Conservation Bank in Indiana, a meaningful step forward for species conservation and sustainable development.

Spanning more than 300 acres across Greene, Martin, and Vermillion Counties, this forested landscape will protect and restore critical summer habitat for four bat species that are federally protected, proposed for protection, or under review for protection, including the Indiana bat and northern long-eared bat.

Strategically located within U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Conservation Focal Areas, the bank strengthens habitat connectivity, supports maternity-season needs, and contributes to long-term species recovery.

Right after construction, stream restoration sites often look rough. Trees gone, ground graded, temporary cover seed holding things together while native vegetation fills in. In visible areas, that’s the moment people notice.

But there’s something happening in those open floodplains that doesn’t get counted in the usual success metrics.

Through our Innovation Leadership Program, RES scientist Leah Purdy spent one growing season, 5 years post-construction, observing pollinators and other insect and invertebrate species inhabiting the floodplain of our restored stream at the University of Richmond. What she found reframes how we think about the “awkward phase” of restoration and what habitat riparian buffers can create.

This , we’re proud to celebrate the 2026 RES EcoGuardian Award recipients.

Now in its third year, the EcoGuardian Awards honor nonprofit organizations that our employees actively support through volunteer service. These groups are doing incredible work, restoring ecosystems, protecting wildlife, and strengthening communities across the country.

This year, RES is proud to award a total of $50,000 to support their missions, including a $15,000 Leadership Award to Homefields. Each organization embodies the spirit of an EcoGuardian, turning passion into real, lasting environmental impact.

Theodore Roosevelt once said that "The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly... who spends himself in a worthy cause." These are fitting words today to describe the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library being built in Medora, ND.

Yesterday morning, Good Morning America stopped by the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library an exciting moment as national attention turns to this one-of-a-kind project nearing its grand opening on July 4th, coinciding with the 250th birthday of America.

We’re proud to play a role in bringing this vision to life with our Ecological Site Solutions approach, leading the seeding, planting, and irrigation across the 40-acre site. This includes the installation of a two-acre native green roof with more than 140,000 plants.

This project is a true testament to collaboration, and we’re grateful to work alongside an incredible team of partners to create a landscape that honors Theodore Roosevelt’s conservation legacy while setting a new standard for ecological design.

A cattle ranch is designed to keep water out. Streams get straightened. Wetlands get drained. The water table quietly drops.

After 150 years of that, Riverby Ranch in North Texas had traded its original hydrology for efficient agriculture. Then the North Texas Municipal Water District needed to build a 16,000-acre reservoir – and needed someone to restore what the region had lost.

RES restored 17,000 acres of land and 69 miles of streams. Planted 6 million trees and constructed 300 wetland basins. All completed concurrently with the reservoir's construction, so there was no gap between when impacts happened and when ecological function was restored.

The result is one of the most significant wildlife corridors in Texas, and a new water supply for 13 cities in the Dallas–Fort Worth region.

Our new StoryMap tells the full story, habitat by habitat and watershed by watershed. It's also a case study in what permittee-responsible mitigation can accomplish when hydrology is the starting point, not an afterthought.

We are excited to announce the completion of the Follets Island Dune Restoration Project in Brazoria County, TX. The project was designed to address shoreline erosion and a weakened natural dune system as a result of hurricane damage.

RES restored more than 6,000 linear feet of dunes using biodegradable dune cores, strategic-sand capture, and more than 33,000 native grasses, which were grown at our plant nursery in Louisiana.

The restored dunes now serve as a critical natural barrier, helping protect Bluewater Highway, a key hurricane evacuation route, as well as adjacent wetlands, coastal habitats, and nearby communities.
