Did you know snapdragons can take anywhere from 7–14 days just to germinate? 🌱

(Germination is simply the process of a seed sprouting and beginning to grow.)

And from tiny seed to first blooms can take around 100–120 days depending on the variety, weather, and growing conditions. Which means every flower starts with months of patience, care, watering, weeding, and hoping. 🤍

There are also hundreds of snapdragon varieties in all kinds of colors, heights, and petal shapes m, from tall elegant cut flowers to compact garden varieties.

Watching the very first snaps begin to bloom here at Lark & Laurel has felt a little magical after such a long wait. 🌸

These may just look like flowers, but each bloom represents months of quiet work happening behind the scenes.

A little update from Lark & Laurel 🌿

After a lot of thought (and honestly, a few tears), I’ve made the difficult decision not to participate in the farmers market this season.

This first year of building a flower-growing business has come with more unexpected challenges, delays, and learning curves than I could have imagined. Between weather, infrastructure setbacks, and simply biting off more than I could realistically manage all at once, I’ve realized the best thing I can do right now is slow down, focus on building a strong foundation, and grow at a pace that allows me to do things well instead of rushing to keep up.

While I won’t be at the market this year, Lark & Laurel is absolutely still growing. 🌸 I’ll continue sharing the journey here, and I do still hope to offer flowers privately and in small amounts throughout the season as I’m able.

This dream means a lot to me, and sometimes part of building something sustainable is recognizing when you need to take a step back and regroup instead of pushing yourself into burnout.

I’m incredibly grateful for everyone who has supported, encouraged, followed along, shared kind words, or rooted for this little flower farm dream already. I truly hope to be back and ready for the market next season. 💛

Another bucket of tulips headed out the door 🌷

So grateful to be working with A New Leaf Florist, Inc. and to have their support as Lark & Laurel continues to grow.

It means so much to see these blooms go from our hands to theirs, and soon into bouquets for others to enjoy 🤍

Thank you for supporting small, locally grown flowers 🌿

The very first harvest of the season… and the very first flowers of Lark & Laurel 🌼

After months of planning, dreaming, and waiting, there’s finally something in a vase.

It may just be a handful of early blooms, but it feels like the beginning of everything.

This is how it starts 🤍

We are officially welcoming the very first seedlings of Lark & Laurel 🌱

Just two days after planting, our column stock seeds have begun to germinate. Tiny roots are reaching down into the soil, and the seed coats are starting to fall away.

Soon those first leaves will unfold.

After months of planning and prepping, seeing that first bit of green feels incredibly special. Thank you for following along as this little farm begins to grow.

While it’s still snowing outside, the first seeds of the season are planted inside 🌱

Snapdragons and column stock are started and ready to grow, and I am very ready for more sun and a lot less winter.

One more seed shipment to go. 🌱📦

I’m still waiting on my final order, dahlia seeds and a cosmos variety I am very excited about - and then the planning turns into planting.

Right now it’s paper packets, notes scribbled in the margins, and a whole lot of dreaming… but I’m more than ready for longer days, warmer soil, more sun, and a lot less snow. ☀️❄️

Spring can’t come soon enough.

Seed order 2 of 4 is here 🌱📦

At this point the house is just seed packets, notebooks, and coffee cups.
Every delivery feels like Christmas morning for flower farmers.

More on the way this week. And yes, I absolutely ordered a few just because they were pretty.

The first seeds of the season are here 🌱📦

This is just the beginning, more seeds arriving this week as plans turn into lists, and lists turn into trays full of tiny promises.

It’s a little surreal holding what will eventually become spring bouquets, but this is how it starts: paper packets, big hopes, and a whole lot of patience.

What should I absolutely be growing this year? 👀💐

It’s officially “stare at seed catalogs and drink too much coffee” season ☕️🌱

I’m sketching out next year’s beds, debating which flowers I need versus which ones I just want because they’re pretty (spoiler: they’re all pretty).

What’s your favorite flower to see in spring? I’m taking notes for the wish list 💐
