Spring is here! I’ve already built my first 10’ x12’ backyard Pergola!
Of course I’m always available for spackling and installing a new faucet but every once in a while I get a truly interesting project like last summer, when a client asked me to cut a row boat in half to make shelves out of the prow. It was a challenge. Not just fitting the shelves but also supporting them properly in such a strange shape. I used a series of Jigs and a technique called “tick-sticking” to set the shelves. And I also made a second set out of the stern at no extra cost (just materials). Please Check out the photos...

Damn, the can opener’s in the Dish washer I just started. No problem I can use the antique one on the wall. My mom was selling it for $10 still has her tag.🤣
The edge it makes isn’t exactly child safe!

I assembled this 12 by 12 Pergola for a customer last season and they were so happy with the job that they had me back to build a rather large Jungle Gym for the kids.
If you are thinking about it, I'll tell you those circular tube slides require a lot of bolts and patience...😆

Sometimes you’ve just got to go old school. The previous floor in this very old house, failed because it was too warped and wavy. Some pieces were held in place with clear tape.
Now current wisdom says pour a leveling compound to even out the floor for the new install, BUT... aside from the holes in subfloor the entire floor of this very old house was tilted a little... such that short of major structural changes much of the leveling compound would likely end up in the back yard. So, turn back the clock and do it how the old timers did, leveling out the floor by stacking successively smaller patches of cut tar paper to fill the depressions. Perfect? not by a long shot but a Very Good solution for this lovely old structure nonetheless.

Saw this in another post... now I'd never consider this as a permanent solution for my or anybodys home but it reminds me that my Dad had a bicycle innertube held on with electrical tape draining our kitchen sink for about 15 years. It was "Installed" when I was a little kid and failed when I was in college at which time I fixed it correctly (he'd never let me get away with that crap).
My Dad actually had high standards for work... but he hated plumbing. So when it failed I fixed it and I've been taking care of his plumbing problems ever since.

This is the time of year when people notice their radiators...
I made this lovely custom radiator cover for an older Bellmore couple. Between the baseboard and the shelf bracket above, It was almost as hard to fit to the space as it was to create. And (if you can see the wire on top in the last photo) the cable guy was no help either.😁

AAAaaaaaahhh! the first deck restoration means it's spring.
This deck not only looked awful but the stairs were also coming away from the frame so the railing felt wobbly and dangerous.
After drawing the frame back together, a few well-placed lag bolts made it solid and safe again. I replaced some boards and reseated or pulled any popped nails. Followed by a powerwash, light sanding, and a waterproof finish.
The difference is amazing.

After a burst pipe, the plumbers had to tear out wallboard to get at them and then the new lines didn't quite fit in the same space leaving me quite the puzzle... It was an odd mess but I think the final result is pretty neat.
