Mums just arrived at Midway. Real varieties. Not the grocery store version that dies in two weeks.

And while you're here — perennials are still in stock. September is actually the best time to plant them. The soil is warm, the fall rains do the watering for you, and they spend all winter establishing roots. By May, they come back twice as strong as anything you'd plant in spring.

If you've spent seasons doing landscaping or hardscaping work for companies that treat you like a number — this is different.

Summer in Chautauqua County hits different when the Japanese beetles arrive.

They're not the only problem. Carpenter bees are drilling. Yellow jackets are building. And your plants are getting decimated while you're trying to figure out what to do about it.

Japanese Beetles: Japanese Beetle Bags — hang them away from your most prized plants and watch them trap hundreds.
Replace every 2–3 weeks during peak season.

Carpenter Bees: Rescue Sticky Traps — place near entry holes and deck rails. They're attracted to the traps, not your wood.
Simple, effective, no chemicals.

Yellow Jackets: Yellow Jacket Traps — bait traps placed away from where you're sitting.

You cannot return a wilted plant.

But here's what we CAN do — teach you how to not kill it in the first place.

The number one plant killer in July isn't heat. It isn't bugs. It's overwatering.

When your plant droops, your instinct is to grab the hose. Sometimes that's right. But if the soil is still damp two inches down — you're drowning it, not saving it.

Here's the actual test:
→ Push your finger 2 inches into the soil
→ Damp? Put the hose down. Come back tomorrow.
→ Dry and pulling away from the pot? Water deeply, then leave it alone.

Wilting in afternoon July heat is often just heat stress — not dehydration. Most plants recover on their own by evening.

We sell watering cans and hose nozzles at the garden center — but more importantly, we'll tell you exactly how to use them.
