Okra and Asparagus are a couple of great summertime crops to grow in Texas.
I moved from our 60 acres and downsized to 10 acres and had to rebuild all the beds and hoophouse for the new property. The first bed I started was with Mary Washington Asparagus. Pundits say it takes 2-3 years to grow Asparagus. WELL take a look. This is our first year in the bed and we have been picking daily for the last few weeks. A great all summer veggie.
Remember to cut them all back before the first freeze and cover with a heavy layer of mulch. I use woodchips. Good to go for the next 20+ years.
Okra is another summertime favorite. I like Clemson for its spinless quality and consistent daily pickings. Pick Okra when it is around 2-3 inches. Be careful, these suckers can grow 5-8 inches in a couple of days. Happy Gardening.
