We try to help educate homeowners about their decks, patios, fences, etc. Here's an example of a deck that's well-built: from the joists to the finish boards.
This is what we love to see — craftsmanship that’s clean, strong, and built to last. Every element of this deck shows care, precision, and a deep understanding of how to build it right.
Here's why this deck is a really good example of what a deck should look like:
âś… Heavy-Duty Joist Hangers
Every joist is fully seated in galvanized metal hangers and fastened correctly — no shortcuts. That means a rock-solid frame built to handle load and time.
âś… Thru-Bolted Ledger Board
Instead of lag screws, this deck uses thru-bolts and washers to anchor the ledger board. This gives a stronger, safer connection to the home — and it meets (or exceeds) code.
âś… Proper Flashing Installation
You can see the metal flashing tucked behind the siding — a small but critical detail that protects the ledger and framing from moisture damage and rot.
âś… Tight Framing, Clean Lines
The joists are straight, level, and evenly spaced. That’s the kind of structure that ensures a smooth deck surface with no bounce or sag.
âś… Diagonal Decking Layout
The deck boards are laid on a diagonal — not just for looks (though it does look fantastic), but for strength. Diagonal decking ties more joists together, reduces lateral movement, and actually adds structural stiffness to the frame. It’s a professional touch that takes more time, but delivers longer-lasting results.
âś… Post-to-Beam Hardware
Beams and posts are connected with proper brackets and bolts. This build is locked in from the ground up — safe, stable, and secure.
This isn’t a "good enough" deck — it’s a great one. The kind that holds up under pressure and looks sharp for years to come.
