Yesterday we had the pleasure of visiting Acton Academy of Bergen County (AABC), a learner-driven nonprofit private school in Closter, NJ, as part of their weekly Hero Visits program! 🦸🏽

Two of our awesome team members, Brian and Leslie, spent time with one of their classrooms to talk about what it’s like to own and operate a small business in the tree care industry. From how we got started, to the tools and skills needed on the job, we had a great time sharing our passion for trees and safe work practices—including how to identify and remove hazardous or dead trees. 🌳

We even brought some hands-on fun! Each student received a natural wood slice from a tree we recently removed in Paramus—sanded and ready to decorate or use however they’d like (perfect timing for their upcoming business fair—can’t wait to see what they come up with!). We also brought in a toy crane and chainsaw to keep the learning interactive and fun. 🪵

Our Story

Elmwood Services, Inc. is a fully licensed and insured tree business established in 1998. Elmwood Services was led and created by Javier, who began operating cranes in the early 1990’s for other prestigious tree companies in New Jersey. His vision began 22 years ago, where he began growing Elmwood Services into one of the most respected tree businesses in Northern New Jersey. With what started off with just a chip truck and chipper, it has grown into a log truck, crane, and multiple chip trucks in order to get the job done in the most efficient, but most importantly, safest way possible. Tree business is one of the most dangerous lines of work, and it is no wonder that tree accidents are constantly being reported online. With that reason alone, we take our work very seriously. But still, even with all of our equipment, no job is too small for us. We value each and every customer the same and are willing to do whatever it takes to strive for perfection.
